So I started using electronic logbooks (NOT EOBRs) and love it!! my question is when a officer ask for your logbook and you hand him your laptop and they ask for paper is there a time limit you have to print them or does it really matter? I don't fire up my printer ever night to print them but if I'm doing a permit and it's on I go ahead and print them off.
Also I have always been use to rounding my time but now it's by the minute are you required to flag a full 15min for your post trip? It only takes me about 10min but it just sucks waiting that five more minutes before you can get in your truck and head home.

if a officer wants hard copy logs you are required to furnish them. the time varies depending on the officer or the state law. you were required 15 min on paper logs because that was the smallest unit of measure. you can log less that 15 minutes if u use E-logs if it took you less time, the ball needs to bounce in the drivers favor on some things. b careful out there

:biggrin_25521: This is how it starts... Go from paper to electronic and in the end you will enjoy the "koolaid" so much that you will jump at the chance of EOBRs. Can't believe it Bayou. :biggrin_25524:

only been asked for my paper one time. at a utah scale.

normally they just want to see where your hours stand.

used to be they'd tell you nevermind when you pull out the lappie. but now that actually wait for that bootup.

my current and last company said to just NOTE a 5 min pre and flag a 15 post. we're not going to see anything different being parked for 10, although sometimes i see something i missed

I don't know how it works with the logs on your laptop, but if an officer requests logs for an EOBR, we ask for a fax or an email and send it to them...they usually just take your word that you're legal lol....

Let me make it clear I will not EVER run a EOBR in my truck!! With these logs I don't have to put date and fill out city state and all that BS I'm really good at paper logs it just saves me 15 min a day not having to count up everything it's just faster.

I will say this these new rules are going to kill trucking I've been running local home every night and have been running on my recap hours I've been running out of time I didn't work Monday at all and took off Sunday at 7pm and didn't work until tues at 6am and I only have two hours left as of right now! And my cycle is not over until sat at 5am.

i'll take my laptop over qualcomm and paper ANY day.

all the pertinent information is preset and automatically fills in on the prints. including the signature. only thing i enter is my times, and bol numbers when i flag load time. i only print once a week. and write in the shipper.

Did the laptop gig for years, and haven't figured out how to imput the Qualcomm data yet. I like the output the computer gives over the EOBR, but believe 2014 will see mandatory use for all trucks on the road, so like it or not, you will not have a choice in the matter. I guess you do, you can leave the industry I guess. I just started with the Qualcomm in the truck with ELogs and find it easier than anything I've used in the past. Once I've logged in for the day or run, short of manually choosing off duty or sleeper berth times, it will look after itself. Turn the truck off, automatically goes into on duty not driving, and start driving, moves to driving mode after a short distance or a certain speed is reached.

At the scale, if asked for a printed page, the inspector has to give you enough time to produce them. Simply by staying up to date with the paper printouts will keep this problem to a minimum. I don't believe there is any really time definition for how long they give you to produce them, but a general rule of thumb is not to annoy them by delaying too much. They seem to have an ability to make your life miserable.

i run eclipse and i love it as a matter of fact i was just asked for my logs today on 40 west in AR. cop asked

cop: let me see ur log book

me: ok no problemo, i do it on my laptop u want todays as well or just last 7 days?

    cop.......ummm u can print them?

    me:ya takes me 2 minutes

cop: u really got a printer in ur truck?

me: ummm ya whats the big deal

cop: ahh the hell with it get outa here have a nice day

    me: thank ya lata!

i guess for some reason they think u cant mess with them. works for me i have no problem with doing logs on a computer as long as im still 100% in control and it does not track me with GPS my handwriting sucks and i know this so its better to be on the laptop now as for EOBR's in my truck or something that tracks u and ur logging never in my truck i have no issues tossing in the keys if they ever make it mandatory

wont happen in 2014 fmcsa just came out with the timeline again and now theyre saying 2015 at the minimum we shall see. i believe were still a few years out before we see widespread eobr law they can talk all they want but i find it very hard to believe that every truck will have to have an eobr maybe companies with 50 trucks or more sure i can see that or even 25 trucks or more but not every single one
