Window tint must allow a mininum of 70% light transmittance. Easiest way to get stopped. Unless your state did not adopt that portion of 393, and you are running intrastate, you are in violation.

I wrote countless tix for tint, and it usually gave me HOS violations by the time I was done.

It can't be on when the vehicle is operated on a public roadway. Pertains to windshield and driver/passenger door. Any other windows are exempt...

For the little guys over 10K, back windows are exempt.

Remember, I don't make up the rules :)

Perhaps the advice to only use sunglasses may be the best advice out there. This way the driver soes NOT run the risk of getting a ticket concerning tinted windows. There are too many other concerns that need to be worried about and addressed.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

iowa tried to get me for window tint when he passed me on the highway. i had the little roll up blind on that window and when i rolled it down for him as he was walking to me with his little meter it fell off and he told me to roll up the window and there he was looking at a clear glass window.

Yeah... I just prefer to file a 42 U.S.C. Sec. 1983 civil rights complaint against them... it really causes them to think about it the next time they want to ignore Federal mandate and harass truckers because that's how those little bullies get their kicks... FMCSA can, and WILL (according to L'il Orphan Annie), yank the authority to conduct roadside inspections from jurisdictions that habitually violate the Fed's regulations and standards... I'm not too confident ot THAT happening, but when those little Barney fife types have to defend in Federal Court, it tends to deflate their little balloons quite rapidly... Been there, done that! It's AWESOME! One time, the Fed. Magistrate informed the defendant that, at the U.S. Attorney's discretion, CRIMINAL charges under 18 U.S.C. Secs. 2 and 201, could be filed against the writer of the tix... Ya shoulda seen HIS face after getting THAT little butt chewing... PRICELESS!

    70% transmittance is legal.

Factory glass will not be 100% transmittant. It already has some tint in it, so be careful what tint you put on.

Just remember that some states will override the FMCSA regs, like Michigan who requires tinting of any sort to be a prescrbed solution for a medical condition.

You got that backwards. 30% tint blocks out 70% of the light. 70% tint blocks out 30% of the light. So 70% is way lighter than 30%
