In Florida they have the county tax collectors do all the DL stuff. And it is funded by a $6.50 you pay every time you go in to use their services.

Well I'm going for my haz when my background info comes in. So ill see it in a month or so. Hmmm so they'll take my current license and hand me a paper one to use until my hard copy comes in? Wow... that's stuipid. Theyve been able to print on site and now if I get pulled over I wont have a photo Id until my new one cones in? I can see a ton of issues possible while I have a paper license. I'm asked for photo id all the time. Guess no Budweiser loads lol

No, the paper one looks like your hard copy, it's just paper is all. I too was thinking about what DOT would say if they saw it...lol -

The FMCSA is still taking comments on the new Medical Card issues. I have posted a comment with them at this web site: http://www.regulations.gov/#!documen...2012-0178-0001
You can also see what Schneider posted regarding the new regs on Medical Exams, Doctors, and adding Medical card info to the electronic CDL record. Schneider makes some good points, and their comments also helped me understand what the changes are.
It sounds like some states have a really good process for confirming with drivers that their medical card has been accepted and their CDL continues to remain valid, while other states, like TN have a really poor process and are unable to provide verification of receipt of the drivers medical card. At least out here in rural TN the process does not work.
I find calling a voice mail in Nashville and repeatedly hearing that their voice mail box is full and you should try again is a bottom feeder approach to confirming medical card receipt. You can call every day, and not get through to them.
The issue is that TN DOT will downgrade your license to Class C if they don't enter your medical card info into their system, even though you have faxed your medical card to them and emailed your medical card to them and your medical card is current.Last edited: Jan 20, 2014

For the original poster:
I faxed in my medical card, and I emailed it in to the state of TN.
The FMCSA is still taking comments on medical card issues, and I have submitted my comments to them at: http://www.regulations.gov/#!documen...2012-0178-0001
You can click on the link and give your comments to the feds as well.
I included in my comments the bottom feeder method that the state of TN uses in collecting medical card info and not giving timely confirmation to the driver that there is a problem with a medical card and that your license is about to be downgraded.
Obviously it will take Federal action to get the state of TN to properly handle this process...........but this is what happens in a state when they do not generate enough tax revenue to do the job they are supposed to do.Last edited: Jan 20, 2014

the problem in TN is the CDL department is dang near impossible to reach by phone. i went through this same fiasco. came home and saw the letter. mine was faxed and emailed. after 2 hours of running around, i decided to call the regular DL hotline for suspensions. nashville F'ed up. my license was valid, and the correction was keyed in the same day the letter was sent in the mail.
