I have a quick question. normally I run local under 100 mile radius and under 60 hours a week.... this past week in 5 days I have 57 hours and my boss made me work 9 hours Saturday and told me to use a log book to log Saturday. im wondering if I use a log book for Saturday work do I have to fill out a log book for the next few days or can I just use a log book for a single day and go back to a daily log sheet?

when i worked local. we only logged days over 12 hours. which very rarely happened. never worked over 60 hours.

that was dirt hauling. back in them days. the air radius was 150 miles. least, that's what the one and only scale check i had said.

    don't know your operation though.

I would ask him why he told you to do that. Because normally in a 100 air mile radius Dot does not require you to keep logs. When you haul Agg. Worst case scenario if his explanation does not make sense call a scale house in your area and ask them how to be compliant and record the date time and officer you spoke to :)

You dont have to give them your name or your company just ask them the question upfront and if they want personal info hang up. I don't support outlaw trucking but anyone in a seat understands the inflexibility of the industry as a whole. The good news is no matter what your doing, all of this on Paper. That being said you can always color inside the lines of your coloring book! Good Luck!

Sure you can use a log sheet for a single day but you have to record your previous 7 days.

But you can't bounce around the 60/70 when you feel like it if you don't operate 7 days a week. You busted your 60. The logbook doesn't fix that. You would of had to work up to 4 hours Sunday for that little trick to work.

If he runs 7 days a week then forget this part. :)

Tell him you'll fill out 4 hours on duty not driving for Sunday if he pays you for it. Then you'll both be legal other than the falsifying. :)

Any day you stay within 100 miles and get off-duty within 12 hours, no log book is required for that day.

However, you are still subject to the HOS limitations, 11, 14 and 60/70 rules.

In his example he was going over the 60 hour limit.

If his company operates CMV's every day of the week, he is on the 70 hr rule. Can't tell from his post.
