I was just wondering how many of you that run thru Oregon have been notified about Oregon doing away with "over the phone" permits, and are moving to a quarterly file and pay system, although I strongly believe that Oregon should be forced onto the IFTA plan with all of the other states, I can see where reporting quarterly will, to a degree, streamline the process.

HOWEVER, what I don't agree with is Oregon demanding an UPFRONT payment equal to or over the amount that you would have paid for a year to hold in escrow, WTF!

So now, in order to run Oregon, they want me to send them between 3,000 and 4,000 so they will already have the money, for the whole year sitting in escrow, just in case you don't pay your quarterly on time. Even though I have run up there for over 20 years and have always paid for my permit over the phone with a credit card, so they have NEVER been at risk for not getting paid.

Well, a couple of months back the brokers were all up in arms about their bond going up about 50 bucks a month in order to be a broker in all states. So where is the outrage over small businesses and O/O's having to fork out thousands of dollars just for one state?

Between Cali. CARB regs, Washington's stupid no overhang of a 53' stepdeck/flat rules, and now this from Oregon, along with the 55/60 mph rules it is getting increasingly harder to justify not just writing the whole west coast of my UCR.

These states are all long overdue for a reality check. Just my rant for the day.

First I've heard of it. I utilized the over the phone permit as well when I had my trucks. We typically did maybe 5-6 trips a year to the PNW. There's no way I'd put up a 4k bond for that few of loads. Maybe that is their angle.

Alls you gotta do for Oregon is set up an account. They will require a 1000 dollar bond for the first year which will cost you a 100 bucks. As long as you report every month and pay the miles you run they will waive your bond after the first year. It is a heck of a lot cheaper to set up an account then buy permits. Go to Oregon Trucking Online and check it out... I do agree its a bunch of BS out this way, but it is what it is....

Thanks for the reply hammer, but I talked to one of the on-line techs that sent me the account set-up info, she was the one that looked at my account, and number of previous permits, and said my I would need to put 3/4,000 in an escrow account.

If what you are saying is the way it is, no problem easy enough, I just don't like sending money to ANY Gov. agency, they are always anxious to get it, and hesitant to send it back.

One other point to ponder though, if EVERY state decided that they wanted a bond to run through their state, I think you can see where I am going with this.

I understand 100%... I will get some more info for ya... I just helped one of my lease guys get his own authority and his bond was only 1000. 100 bucks outta pocket. Ive never heard of Oregon doing an escrow account, I live in WA so I gotta deal with Oregon all the time. It may be some new BS they got going on, I will check into it for you. If need be, I can private message you my number and help you navigate the oregon trucking online system. Let me know.

I just got off the phone with them, my "Bond amount" is 4,250.00 they set that amount by the number of trucks you have registered, the amount of permits you get in any one-year cycle.

She said that in my case, the first truck was 2,000.00 and then every truck after that it graduates up, then they also have a formula for the amount of permits that you order.

We only own and register 9 trucks and trailers, we have no O/O's everything is company owned.

I guess the bottom line for me is, we (the trucking industry) was sold this bill of goods about how everything was going to be unified, that we had to have CDL's so that everyone was on the same page, and that interstate authority would become uniform across the land. Thank God because when you run as many states as we do, I was running out of front bumper back in the day, lol

But it chaps my ### when these couple of states, most notably, Oregon, New Mexico and New York, Cali. can change the rules in mid stream just because they think they are better or above everyone else.
