I've got plenty of tools and flashlights, this is the only company who doesn't have chains on any trucks, which is weird. I'm buying six sets at the ta in Amarillo tomorrow evening.

I know this is an old thread but no one answered his question about how many sets of chains you need. I am going to be running through Colorado and need to know how many sets you would need for a regular 5 axle truck/trailer. Thanks much.

Okay thanks...trying to read through all the states..what would be the most required in any state? If I got a set of doubles and a set of singles I should be straight for the most part?

Most states will require the outside drives being chained, plus drag chains. Oregon and California require drag chains. You certainly need to carry in California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and Colorado. Those are the states to most likely require chains. Utah requires over Parley's Summit on 80, and New Mexico and Arizona usually do not require chains, but it's good to have them in those states.

that's a good link to have.

as far as colorado, chains throughout the state starting sept 1. not just 70. but 70 is the only place you'll get fined if busted. according to that link.

not sure as to all places there are signs, but if you come into colorado from moab, ut. there's a sign.

best bet to just simply have 6 chains. i think someone posted last year, that one state actually requires spares.

IIRC, that's California. They say minimum chains and maximum chains, so I carry 8.

Also... there's no "waiting out the storm" in Colorado any more. CSP will have you towed and impounded after 24 hours.

That's good. I like that. It makes room for the drivers who want to get the job done.
