Near as I could tell the Texas department of public safety only gives a date of January 30, 2014 as the date you are required to keep your medical card. I would assume that would mean that's the cutoff date for submitting your certification to the state.

January 30, 2014 is the Federal cutoff date for the new medical card program.

Until then you have to carry the paper medical certificate. After that date it will have to be on file with your home state and part of your computer license record.

My medical card expires in February but I'm going to renew it ahead of time and submit it to the DPS so I don't have to make two trips and file paperwork twice.

    Better safe than sorry.

If I understand correctly, CDL holders who do not have their medical information on file with the DMV as of Feb 1, 2014 will have their CDL priviledges removed.

Also, FYI. Had a driver this week who self certified - went online with DMV and did their medical enrollment online. Somehow DMV did not get the signal, driver gets here with a CDL with an Intra-State restriction on his license. He had to fax copies to the DMV to get it straightened out.

So if you did it online, you might have someone run your license to check and see that your medical information has been added to your CDL record.

Texas allows you to fax, email or mail the proper forms and copy of the exam to the Austin office but given how long it took the attorney general's office to get my child support payments going I think I'll just present the documents in person.

here in Ohio they input the info inot the computer while you are standing there and then get a hard copy to send to records retention.

Side note, make sure ALL INFO on your card is correct and filled out properly before you leave the docs office.

I know, its a well duh kinda thing but I'm still learning and hope to share my mistakes!!!
