Hope everyone else knows that you are required to register your MEC (DOT physical) with your licensing section of the Department of Motor Vehicles. This has to be done before January of next year, otherwise you may end up not having a valid CDL anymore. Unbeknown to me, I actually had my CDL downgraded over the past few months. My DMV gave me a lot of leniency when they saw my physical was still current, and reinstated my commercial driving privileges. I was extremely fortunate... Had I waited another month, I would not have been so lucky.

It has to be sent into the CDL unit division of the dmv or your state. The initial info can be registered on the internet, but the form has to be faxed or mailed to them within 10 days of accessing the website.

The way it works for my state (Montana). All drivers that obtained their CDL before May of 2012 will have to manually bring in their MEC (or fax it in). Everyone who go a CDL after that issue date will have their info updated into the CDLIS as they are getting their initial/renewed license.

Better check just to be safe though.

I will let him know to check on that. He will be here Mon and can go verify it to be on the safe side.

He probably will be ok... But ya never know. The way I found out was my wife was going through a box of letters that we stuffed away during our move. There it sat, big bold letters saying they are gonna downgrade me within 90 days if I dont register my MEC with them. Basically the DMV now has an extra box on their computer screen which will let them know when my DOT physical expires. It only takes about 5 minutes for them to do the update. You will definitively spend way more time in line than anything.

easy question to ask is did they ask to see his med card when he got the hard copy license? If they did, he's entered in the system.

Folks PLEASE ck w/ur state dmv--seems this program is NOT uniform state to state......Personally fl checked my card and entered it in system when I renewed cdl last summer then got a letter this Oct stating I STILL needed to go online and self certify---and at our little place we have drivers from at least 6 states and ALL have been given diff instructions from their own state
So seems to me a check call is in order
