I have the same issue. My lack of depth perception is due to my eyes not being able to track the same object. What I did to over come this was find points of reference on the trailer and anything surrounding me. Additionally, I had to GOAL alot when backing. I survived. I just had to adapt.

You guys nailed it on the depth perception. Mine isn't quite as bad as watching tv but that's a pretty good description.
Northern Lights Thanks this. -
Well if you have driven a personal vehicle SAFELY for 3+ years with a SPOTLESS driving record then whats to say that you wouldnt be able to operate a CMV safely as well. I think till the FMCSA eliminates the experience requirements for vision waivers it is keeping a LOT of people with lifelong vision issues who have successfully adapted to their vision limitations and are able to operate a personal vehicle safely from driving a CDL EVEN if they want to drive intrastate only as some states dont have a vision exemption for intrastate only.

If somebody that's missing an arm or leg wants to drive, more power to 'em, but sight is kinda important to have. -
Just got a eye test the other day the left eye is 20/25 but the right eye is 20/70 so any suggestions on how to go about the dot physical or should i just try to shoot for a waiver with no comm experience
-
well i unfortunatly bombed the physical. Just waiting for the FMCSA DOT to change their vision waiver requirments to no experience needed. Do u guys think they will ever change it? Or are they just ignoring their requests for comment on the proposed rule change? Will it stay proposed or will it ever come to fruition?

simple, move to Alabama or drive a school bus. yep, no med certificate needed so a blind, diabetic, with no arms or legs could drive 40 kids around, yep, makes a lot of sense don't it??
