My brother in law has S.A. He is now doing better than ever, with treatment. The problem I have is being made to do something that isn't required, YET.

This is an attempt to drive out many older experienced workers in favor of younger ones. Many of which don't want this type of work or life to begin with. It doesn't meet their false sense of fulfillment standards.

The problem I have with it is that people that have alot of muscle are going to have a higher bmi. I am 6ft 2 and weigh 265. My bmi is exactly 35, according to the chart I am obese yet I have very little fat. My neck size is 19 3/4. All of this is due to playing football for 17 years. Has nothing to due with sleep apnea but eventually I will be forced to take the test.

I think it's bias. Anyone can have sleep apnea so a guy driving a motor cycle, or regular class d vehicle can also have it. They can cause just as serious crash as a big rig.

eventually well be mandated to take the test but until then it should be left alone unless your 500lbs with no neck and all the symptoms of it.

While I agree with you regarding the BMI question, statistics bear this out. People with sleep apnea are most often going to have higher BMI's and thicker necks. It is a result of the fact that more body tissue, especially in the neck, is going to cause obstructions. I don't like it anymore than you, but it is undeniable.

(Please bear in mind, I am 6'4", 325 pounds and a 20" neck. Before treatment, I would have apneas 50-60 times IN A HOUR!!!)

Dave is spot on. I was in the same boat as he, one night as i was sleeping on the couch (a whole other story LOL) my son woke me up shaking me. He thought I was dead as I wasn't breathing. Real eye opener.

Over 10 years now with a cpap and haven't regretted one night of it. As a matter of fact I bought a second machine so that I always have a backup. If someone you know has observed you sleeping and mentions that you not only snore but have episodes of struggling to catch your breath, please get checked. It could save your life.

Older experienced truck drivers are often the SAFEST & MOST RELIABLE truck drivers on our nations highways. Why would trucking companies want to get rid of them?

I gonna throw you one,I have Asthma and a genetic Anemia had a doc try and tell me that the reason I was tired was from S.A.! I am 5'4" and was 175 at the time, never have snored or had any stoppages during sleep(according to my now ex). Doctor swore I was not sleeping right and tried to blame my tiredness and even the paleness of my skin on sleep apnea,he wanted to send me for sleep test till head doc actually looked at my sheet and noticed my medical issues.

There are other things that make us tired and sluggish not just sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is getting a large focus because the companies figured out a new way to make money. Force all drivers to get sleep tests then make them buy the machines from an affiliate or company they partnered with. All they have to do is get it made regulation and Voila! money machine.

Yes it is a severe health issue but I really resent being told I have this problem when I don't have the specific results of it. My problems are a general body fatigue accompanied by shortness of breath(aka Asthma) that can be compounded with a lack of strength(Anemia),the first is everyday when I miss my meds and the second is when I am low in iron from my diet or combo of both. I constantly have to watch at physicals because the examiners are sometimes in rush or just trying find reasons to fail drivers(yes I have seen that trick several times).

They typically cost more to hire and pay.
Their benefits cost more, as we age, we need more care.
They don't tow the company line like a well indoctrinated wheel holder.
They don't follow directions like these youngsters do, fresh out of schools.
