The Michigan frost law only pertains to roads other than a class A road (cement), if you keep in mind when you go on to an asphalt road you are on a class B road and the weight and speed restrictions come into play. If it is a gravl road stay of of it. The class B roads must have a sign referring to weight and speed restrictions.
Another little know law in Michigan is you are not allowed on a class B road with a 102 wide or 53 foot trailer any time of the year. There is a buffer distance from the class A road so you can make a delivery or pick up, I'm not sure of the distance but it has to do with the only way to get there. This time of the year in Michigan if you aren't sure you better call the shipper/receiver, those tickets can be in the thousands.
I must apologize for incomplete information. I posted this in a hurry and later realized I left out some very important information. If a road is an Interstate, a U.S. route or a Michigan State route, no matter what the road is made of, it is a class A road. I guess because of the better construction quality. County and local roads not so well built.
I got pull over today in Michigan for frost law

I find this interesting. There are no such regulations here in Alaska and the ground/roadbeds freeze and thaw cycles are much more severe than in the L48 , of course any regulation like the "frost law" would be silly considering the roads here are in a constant state of crap or construction, in fact, the differences in road quality are so great that I missed a turn by 200 miles in Montana once upon a time when I was driving (4 wheeler and trailer) from Minneapolis MN to Valdez AK, the road was so smooth and straight I was just kicking back and enjoying it so much I forgot all about my turn to head north for a boarder crossing. :smt102:smt046
