There lies the problem with the industry.

There is no reason for not paying.

Sure there is.. the Company is already paying for these tests, but not requiring them.. who's compensating the company for the driver's time? If you want to petition the government to pay for this (good luck) be my guest..

Who pays the company when the office staff has a claim for work related injury?

Never mind, you must feel fine being treated as a second class citizen.

The other problem is the lack of personal responsibility. He fell off the #### truck!

I have fallen off a truck one time. Now I pay attention to what I am doing and I do live where it snows and work a flatbed.

Accidents happen no matter how careful you are.

If the office staff fell down the steps or something, they get paid to go to the doctor.

Only technically.. mainly due to the fact that a lot of them are on salary.. they dont get paid overtime, weekends, loading pay, unloadling pay, holidays, or fuel and safety bonuses. The fact that speaking personally do not get half the time off that my drivers do means that I' not really caring too much if they have to go to the doctor that they are not paying for on their "own time" when if the injury is real, they will be getting paid to do nothing but heal and go to further appointments etc etc etc..

Most office staff are not salary without overtime. Overtime is required unless they are exempt by being management. They are always home at night and weekends. Seems to me to be more time off. In addition, they can get a settlement on the work injury as well. Why pay them? Because you cannot get away with it.

Many drivers do not get paid for holidays, fuel bonus, safety bonus, unloading pay or loading pay.

Just to be clear...I get paid by the hour for every hour I'm on duty. I was on duty when I fell. The company ordered a doctors visit and a drug test and I did both at the same time.

Labor and Industries has ordered I be on light duty status. The details of what exactly constitutes "light duty" are too complex to go into here so I'll leave them out. However, as I understand it, the company will be reimbursed 1/2 of my regular salary for every hour I'm on light duty. Interestingly, I can still drive while being on light duty status.

OK...now comes the laugh.....I fell off my truck because a bird dive-bombed me and freaked me out ! LoL!!

Thanks Mark. And I was on duty at the time it's just that the company is saying they don't need to pay for my trips to/from/at the doctors at all. I contend that if I'm "on duty" I should be paid.
