We haul forklifts on our low bed and we occasionally haul extra batteries with the lifts. If we haul a lithium battery do we need to have a placard?

I am not sure (sorry) The regular batteries that we haul for them weigh 2500 lbs or so. I am trying to get hold of my customer to verify the exact weight.

If the extra battery is over 1,001 lbs you need to placard I believe. Not sure if the battery in the forklift gets counted.

When you get ahold of the shipper ask them if they know. They have just as much responsibility as the driver or trucking company.

There are listed in table §172.101 in the CFR 49 parts 100 to 177. Even the batteries installed in the equipment have rules. If they meet the quantity then the placards are UN 3091 for installed batteries and UN 3090 for bulk.
