Hi I am diagnosed with schizophrenia and have been admitted to a behavioral hospital 4 times in the past 5 years (the most recent one being a year and a half ago). I called my local truck driving school and they said that if I can get a referral from my doctor I can go to the school and get my license. But what I'm worried about is if local truck driver companies will hire me because I've been hospitalized so many times in my past?
Can I become a local truck driver?

I don't think companies check medical back ground...as long as u can pass drug screen and physical u should be okay...but you should work on your attitude or you will get fired real quick

Does'nt matter about your condition, local companies want drivers with exp unless the ones in your area has a training program. You'll more then likely have to go OTR for a yr becore local companies hire you.But about this behavior you have, not sure what companies policies are on that.So before attending school and investing all that money and time, you'd be wise if you call trucking companies first and talk to them.

I would look into a food service company or a beverage company in your case. Or Old Dominion, but I'm not sure if they hire newbies. If your dream is to be a local driver, don't waste your time going OTR.
