Tonight I had to put a set together and the bottom trailer needed explosive placards. Well it had the flip placards on the front and sides but the one for the back was missing so I was going to put a stick on back there. My supervisor said they all have to match, either all flip, stick on, or cardboard insert. I thought they all just had to be properly marked, in this case explosive 1.4 S.

You're right - despatcher wrong.
Placard all 4 sides, flip or stick.
To my knowledge, anyway.fireba11, CondoCruiser and gravdigr Thank this. -
You're right, dispatcher needs remedial training. As long as it with stands the 30 day test and 72 mph test you can use what combination you want as long as they are all the same as far as info.
This is all covered under 49 CFR Part 172
172.516 and 172.519 specifically.

I haul explosives for a living.....As long as some kind of placard, stick-on, flip, it doesn't matter, is on all 4 sides you are good to go.
blairandgretchen and gravdigr Thank this. -
A placard is a placard. At long as they all say the same thing and are not messed up you're good.

Ok, found out today it's a corporate policy, no idea what the motives are behind that one.

Supervisor's excuse when he found out he was wrong. Uh, uh, it's company policy. Yeah that's it!
There's no logical thinking I can think of?
Shipper is suppose to supply placards if need be. -
