I just went to my local clinic. They still have a PA who can do the exams, but she is leaving in AUg, and they aren't sure anyone else is going to jump through the hoops to get approved to give these stupid physicals.

This whole thing is a big load of crap. CDL holders are victims of a completely out of control system. My doctor's office saved my life when I had a perforated intestine, and then guided me back to health. And now they can't say I'm fit enough to drive a truck? POliticians need to sanity checks. That would be a better law. The other part of this bs that knots my knickers is the confusion from an "official" and "professional" level. Why are there questions? If I go to the FMCSA site and read the law, why do I need to keep checking for "guidance"? Why do people give varying interpretations? Because they shouldn't be allowed to make moronic laws.

With unemployment being what it is, qualified replacements would come about very quickly.

Sadly & unfortunately, it has become a medical necessity. Obesity has become dangerously out of control among the population of the U.S.A., truck drivers included. This is a serious safety & health issue that needs to be corrected.

Just renewed mine yesterday only thing that kept me at a one year was my blood pressure. No mention of my BMI, sleep apnea no nothing.

I went to my state site (PA Penn dot) and here is the form they use http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms/dl_forms/Self Cert Med Exam Cert.pdf -which i would think would be up to date - and /or listed under new law if any changes were made.
Same as the one that the have on the FMCSA site http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulation...eport-commercial-driver-fitness-determination (click on their link).

As far as i can tell - anything they check (drawing blood etc.) is over and above what information is asked for.
It seems pretty cut and dried eyes, ears, heart - and as near as i can tell, any extra,s they do are because you listed some pre existing condition, or are on medication, or they are looking at something ugly.
I would have to also assume you could also make sure only what is required on that form is filled out or checked.
But that doesn't mean you will get your medical card -or die of some affliction that is ignored.

That is company BS not DOT. Technically you did not need a new card, yours was good for two years even as a new hire.

Mattnatti and "Hang - Man" Thank this.

That may be a problem -if you are going to the doctors your company recommends or if they pay for it who knows what medical test,s they may have required be done.
You all would know better, and tell me if this is not so -but i would find a hometown local that doesn't get to picky about things and get it done before you need to or your current one expires.
For those that get all "Laws and rules and such are for the public's safety" i am guessing you probably have a better chance of dying when a four wheeler that doesn't have to meet such medical standards cuts you off or a heart attack while taking a dump then while driving.

6'3" 400 lbs got a 1 year card a week ago. one year card is because i have sleep apnea that has been under control since 2008.

The one thing that i don't understand is that they have created this national registry of doctors that can administer the dot physical. this is supposed to "standardize" the way the physicals are performed. it makes absolutely no sense what so ever for a company to spend money if a driver already has a current physical.

    Rug_Trucker Thanks this.

They don't have to, it was their choice to do so. Whether the one year card over rules the remainder of your two year card is too technical for me to answer.

this was my first card. i was making a general statement. if a current driver has a current card why do all of the companies not trust the card and have their doctor do another physical.
