When I had my wreck, the first thing they asked for was my cellphone.....
Then my logbook and then if I was alright.....
Cell phone and logbook were OK....

All they have to claim is homeland security. -
You deserve every bit of the anguish you go through if you wave your fourth amendment right. When an officer asks "can I see your phone"? The simple (polite) answer is "Im sorry sir, but I would like to assert my fourth amendment right to not be searched without probable cause"... If he says claims to have probable cause then politely say "then you will have no problem getting a warrant". The SCOTUS just said "a phones contents can not pose a direct threat to an officer". The contents of your phone can not harm the officer, he has no right to see the contents of your phone.
Here is the important part (that you all would have known if you had read the article) a phone is YOUR PERSONAL EFFECT!!!! The reason DOT can't look in your sleeper is because it is YOUR PERSONAL EFFECTS !!!
Just because you drive a truck does not mean you are not protected by the fourth amendment. The cab of the truck is considered a "workplace" by SCOTUS the sleeper and its contents are "personal effects". -
