The 34 hr reset is where you take off for your break and have to have 2 periods of 1am to 5am off during that time period. Only one 34hr reset is allowed per 168 hrs, so it basically means you have to have about the same days off each week, which would be ok if you are running from a terminal or hub or local, but not so great if OTR all the time. According to when you get off beforehand will dictate how many hours you will be off before being legal to run again. If your last load delivered Friday morning, then you would have a lot more hours in off than someone who delivered later in the day.

Before this new rule went into affect, esp in the economic downturn in 2008, you could take 2 34hr resets in a week if you wanted, esp if you were left sitting between loads for long periods of time. Now you can't do that, only one counts.

Recap hours, if you can run about the same amount of hours, 8 or so a day, work out good, but if you have a goose egg on one day, it may mess the drive time up in the future. With recap you never really take set time off.
