it's been a tradition, since the history of emissions. that cali is always the first, the rest of the country soon follows.
and since all trucks have dpf now, since 08. i wouldn't put it past the rest of the country to NOT follow cali. although, i don't know why they just can't let things die as the new take over.
as for fines and what not, i've heard of 2 on the road dog channel that got fined pretty severly for not having the proper exhuast requirement. but those 2 companies were both cali based.
cali has also fined a company that makes window wash fluid. and most recently, a company that makes wipes for eyeglasses. because they are using a chemical that contributes to cali smog. WHATEVUH
cali is really getting hard up with their stinky air. if they were smart, they'd ban the sale of gas cars and go strictly to battery operated. that'll clean up their air in 5 years. seriously. 25 million people stuck in traffic at any given time of day on the freeway, idling their engines. -
It's really hard for people that have not lived in and around the California culture to understand, however so many people in Cali are well intentioned and BELIEVE they are smarter than the average bear, so their opinions are more important than others.
That said, it boils down to the concept of being responsible and a good steward for mother earth.
More than half of Californians believe we are killing the polar bears, so we MUST reduce the carbon footprint at all costs.
Hence these insipid laws.
My last battle with California, before I sold out and left, was over the rainwater runoff from the parking lot of my industrial building in San Diego. I was being required to capture all the water and treat it before it was released into the storm water system where it would flow into the ocean.
Now mind you, this was just a standard parking lot. No toxic waste, no dismantled oily engine parts...just 100 or so employee cars parked.
the cost to me exceeded $450,000! (otherwise, face a fine of more than $150,000 per year for non compliance)
I was already spending more than $50,000 per year to catalog any solvents and products in my building with VOCs, just to be CARB compliant.
When I sat down with the reps from CARB (which also ran this runoff issue), they looked me straight in the eye and said, "we are all responsible for the earth's health."
I decided then and there I was done.
The ruling politicos have no touch with the common working person and believe an endless stream of funds from taxes give them the right...no the responsibility to govern everyone's life no matter how much it hurts us.
Don't beat yourself up trying to figure out their logic.
There isn't any.
Sacramento is drunk with insanity as they save the polar bears at our expense.281ric Thanks this.
