I interpret the current HOS rules as more a form of doublespeak than anything else, through which safety's good name gets applied for the purpose of 24/7 movement of trucks on the highway. The inane 70-hour rule does admittedly refute this interpretation, but maybe it's just some additional cover.

They were going to change the 70 hr rule to 82 hours then the Tracy Morgan crash happened and an over zealous DA said that driver was up for 24 hours before he crashed. The truth is that driver was pushing his 14hr clock and going 65 in a 45(construction zone). I drive what the speed limit says and all I keep thinking when a lot of drivers pass me is keep speeding jerk cause I want to pay the price for your mistake(that last part was sarcastic).

We need to unify to get anything done and from reading these post it will not happen. Even if we pulled over for any amount of time we could not agree on anything to get any significant changes.

Forget overtime, How about shippers and receiver have to pay an hourly rate after 2-3 hours at their place. I have been to places and 1 guy loads and my trailer is filled in 20-30 minutes and how is it when I go other places they will have 2 guys and it takes 6 hours? Ridiculous I bet they move faster if their company had to pay us to sit their then I would be like take your time.

We have the power if we could only unite and speak with one voice but in todays Me First world the only way we could get anything done is by making sure the stuff we deliver does not end up on the shelves. Look at the northeast after Sandy hit. They ran out of gas after 1 day of no deliveries, in fact they had to deregulate the rules so they could have stuff. Some of the grocery stores ran out of stuff for their shelves. That was only one day. The public can change all this HOS rules for us but they have to care and as long as their stuff is on the shelves they will never care how it got there.

    Be safe out there
