Okay I've been searching this site and the net for what paperwork I would need for a DOT physical concerning my sleep apnea.
My question is do all I need is my sleep study since it was done 5 years ago and yes I do use my machine now even though I didn't use it consistently when I first got it or it there some other paperwork i need to have my doctor type up?
Can I just take my CPAP machine into the DOT doctor and show him I use it?
I am getting ready to get a new CPAP through the VA so I don't have to pay for the replacement parts for it but it wont have all the usage info on it like my old one since it will be new.
The reason I'm asking this is I plan on attending the training at Sage in San Antonio but want to make sure everything is square before I sign up for the course so i'm not jumping through any hoops. Appreciate the Help!

I am a fellow CPAP user. From what I've read here, your machine has to have the wireless capability so that they can actually make sure you're using it. Most new machines have that capability, standard.
-
#### they're up to wireless already lol! Guess when I go to the VA on the 20th I can ask them to give me one that would be compliant with truck driving. Do you need anything for the DOT doctor to verify use? Thanks
-
Peteblairandgretchen Thanks this. -
New one should have something like that or other means of reading data to analyze it to ensure compliance.
Good luck.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
My old one did have an SD card but I had to give it to my Doctor when I first received the machine back in 2008 after 30 days of use and never got the card back. I can read the settings off the machine though when its plugged in. Thanks
-
I just looked at mine. it doesnt list what the GB or MB capacity is. only shows it a respironic sd card. To be safe I would contact the manufacturer to get the info or card from them.
I should think the VA should be able to get it read. -
Yeah the VA should be able to ...I have to take my old one with me when I go in on the 20th to get a new one through the VA. My old one I received while I was still active duty army. Again thanks and appreciate the help.

sure thing. Its better to have the info and not need it than need it and not have it.
Apnea being such a cause of contention by some who believe its junk science. And some providers seeing a cash cow for those that may be borderline.
Thanks for your service. Good luck in school.blairandgretchen and LGarrison Thank this. -
Just a thought here....is one of the doctors at the VA certified to do a DOT Physical and could you get them to do it when you go?
