doing and 8/2 split. COULD be a valid point. HOWEVER, the trucks are only sitting for 3, 4, 5, maybe 6 hours.

they AREN'T sitting for 8 or 2 hours.

i once parked, for the night. had a truck park next to me shortly there after. sat in the drivers seat a full 10 hours. playing on his cell phone. i'm not a full 10 sleeper. about every 2 hours i was up with a smoke. and he was in the drivers seat playing on his cell phone. so i would assume he was up the whole time. 10 hours went by. he fired up his truck and left.

i wouldnt. But what about the ambitious 22 year old who just acquired his CDL. Who's going to drive from San Francisco to New York and back in four days. Do you want him sharing the road with your family?

nobody dislikes Gov. intrusion more than I but sometimes regulation is needed.

Id like to to see the HOS red used and the pay increased.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with 4 days either, but I got what they meant. Years ago, I knew a guy that did 5 Wis. to Cal. turns a month. There was nothing legal about that situation.

We run elogs at the company where I work. I know they watch them closely and everytime someone figures out a way to cheat, they close that loophole. There are tricks that are technically illegal. And some of these drivers' you're observing may be doing this...
They 'crawl' down to the shipper/receiver at less than 18mph and 2 miles. That won't trip the elog. Or they may have only driven a couple hours, are stopped next to you for 5 hours or so, then leave to go to the shipper receiver.
    All legal.
For the most part, e logs are almost fool proof.

Then the GPS receivers wouldn't work. But if a solar flare did knock out the GPSs, I'd assume it'd knock out a bunch of other satellites and if that was the case, I think we'd have bigger problems than elogs to concern ourselves with.
