It probably would also knock out the ECM's on all the vehicles also. A major solar flare that knocks out all the GPS satellites will most likely also give us an Electro Magnetic Pulse that will knock out the grid and the the ECM's on most vehicles. So no one will have to worry about logging anything, you won't be going anywhere.

Did you know that if you just unloaded 1/2 mile away from the truck stop (and many are located in close proximity to shippers/receivers) you can drive to the TS "off duty" and remain off the drive line? So if you were technically unloading but put yourself "off duty" an hour ago, after pulling into the TS you only have to sit for 9 hours rather than 10? Nope, guess you didn't know that. How often does this happen? Not very! But when it does it's GREAT! How much does it interfere with your normal rest? NADA! If you can pull this stunt 3-4 times a year you're lucky, and in the overall scheme of things this kind of end around means SQUAT when it comes to adversely affecting safety. After all, SITTING is SITTING whether you do it at a shipper or in a tuck stop parking lot!

So don't get your panties all in a wad about it. You're probably just seeing what I've just described...

Looks like I got YOUR panties in a wad over my post.lol No you are wrong ,I know what is going on. I have talked to some drivers from some of the mega's that use them and I have personally asked them how they get around them and they tell me. E LOGS are a JOKE!!!!! Looks like it just don't matter what the ol guberment does, the freight has to move and money has to be made. FYI I do not run illegal. I have some #### good loads that I haul. I will not let a broker or dispatcher put me in a situation where I have to be in a hurry or run illegal. I stay in total control of my operation. Owner Operator with my own authority and the shippers & recievers can go by my rules or find someone else to haul their load & put up with their nonsense. The odds are in my favor, plenty of freight and plenty of dummies to haul for cheap and run illegal. So when I stop at a rest area or 1 of my other quiet places that I will not disclose here for the night which is usually around 6pm and I see them come & go I just laugh to myself that the elogs are a joke. Your 1/2 mile deals from the TS are very few & far between. Very seldom do I stay at a TS, I have my own hangouts and they are usually out in the middle of nowhere. When the guberment does make me go to e logs it will not affect my operation NONE other than the cost involved with the elogs which at that time I will raise my rates to cover the additional expense. This cheating of elogs is something that just didn't start yesterday, I have seen this fiasco going on for a couple years now. If what I read in the news is right then we will all be elogging next year. I had my eight grade shop teacher (around 1978) tell me "son you have got to always figure out how to beat the system to be successful at anything you do" and boy was he right. It doesn't matter what the fmcsa implements, someone will always find a way to beat the system.lol

E-Logs are a joke! The large carriers can "Make" hours for their drivers when needed, trust me, I've been part of it.

I have been told this by others also. Most of the mega's only go 62mph, get caught up in traffic, have flats, plus their inefficient professional drivers, they have to cheat or they would be going out of the trucking business.lol I'm not saying all drivers for mega's are inefficient just some. There are some very good professional drivers working for the mega's mostly just for the benefits. One thing positive might come out of this would be better coordination of scheduling loads from shippers once everyone goes electronic. I fore see shippers & receivers getting a major tune up when this happens. Look at all the hours that are wasted by shippers, receivers, brokers, & dispatchers not having their act together. Shippers, receivers, brokers, & dispatchers are all part of the industry and their days of having to be held accountable are coming I hope. I waste more time getting loaded & unloaded at some places and it is because the shippers & receivers are not held accountable for nothing. It is truly sad that the fmcsa does not have a clue on how things are really going out in the trucking industry. Another downfall to the elogs is that in some areas there is not enough truck parking for everyone to be compliant, so what are we going to do when we run out of time and have nowhere to park? I think the mega's are thinking elogs will knock out a lot of owner operators, which it is going to do, but not me.lol

Not hear say, came straight from the elog drivers mouth to my ears. My backyard must be clean since I just passed a level 1. DOT can look at my logs anytime, I have nothing to hide or worry about. You might need to go back to the Holiday Inn.lol
