I have noticed that several trucks run electronic logs park by me at truck stops and rest areas are not staying their full 10 hour mandatory break. I drive during the daytime & sleep at night so I am usually stopped by 6:00pm. So when another truck stops at 10 or 11 pm or later then they are off & running by 5 or 6 am this is not 10 hours. I have talked with drivers using them & they tell me that there is many ways to get around the e logs. This isn't something that just started it has been going on for a long time. A lot of these trucks are from the big fleets, some of them from the ones that rallied fmcsa to implement e logs . I am familiar with the split sleeper birth rule and am pretty sure that they are not doing this.

Clever drivers end-running the intent of the law.
Sometimes, in some trucks, you can unplug the fuse that runs the elogger.

My problem is that soon I am going to be forced/required by law to spend my hard earned money to purchase some electronic logging equipment that I do not want or need in order to keep doing what I do for my living.

Hi Straitliner, You must have your own truck, as I couldn't imagine a company driver being asked to buy their own e-log generator. I understand your concern, as an O/O, I'd have a hard time justifying my actions to the government too, the very reason I bought a truck in the first place, so I wouldn't have to do that. One of my jobs, I did have e-logs, and I liked them, there was no guessing where I had been. But there's no way I'd want them in my own truck, one of the reasons I sold my truck, was I saw it heading that way. Sadly, it's here to stay, and you'll have to comply, or get out. It's one of the reasons truck papers nowadays are as thick as a phone book.

That's weird, I have exactly the opposite observation. I will pop my brakes and note who my truckstop neighbors are, take my ten and 15 pretrip and see the same neighbors still sitting there, curtains drawn.

Yeah, I know, everyone's got their story, from they are on their 34 or they have an appointment much later in the day, but those are the exceptions.

As for these strawmen drivers who drive for these large unnamed elogging carriers taking less than 10 hrs. A) they could be using the 8 and 2 to take their break, B) they are knowlingly not compliant, C) their unnamed carrier is most likely unaware of this and will probably fire them for it, and D) these drivers would be doing the same on paper.

This topic here is e logs, not me. If you want to start in on me you need to open a new thread for that purpose. Stop hijacking my e log joke thread.lol With that said tell us why you are so supportive of e logs.

Is it possible these trucks have a Qualcomm despatch device, but still run paper logs?
