How much disiel fuel does it roughly cost to take a load from St. Louis to Miami..I
dont know exact type of tractor and trailer it is..my friend who drives it said it wasn't anything special.
I'm looking out for a friend and trying to see if the company is just using him for long runs and the ones nobody wants to take..he said this trip from st . Louis to Miami will pay about eight hundred dollars..is this worth it after fuel and expenses...he said they're may be tolls....he might have something to bring back he said, but he wasn't sure...

I'm just trying to look out for good friend and not have someone take advantage of his kindness..

    thank you..appreciate any help

if he is just a driver its good pay .
If he is a O/O its crappy pay and he is a idiot if he takes it .
If he is a driver and pays for the fuel he is even dumber .

IMO no he is waisting his time. If he does not have a load out he will spend most of the 800 in fuel to get back North to find a load. 1200 miles plus tolls then 400 mile deadhead or more to get to the next load.

If your friend is an owner op or a lease op why would he be asking a non driver?
The trip is around 1220 miles the most direct route will involve tolls but nothing too spendy.

This is is a generic mockup. Without knowing weight, tractor, driver you are looking at around 203 gallons of fuel. Take an average price of $3.89 and that gives you $791 in fuel.

Unless your friend is company, which is doubtful since he would be making .65cpm on this trip and you are asking about fuel this is a horrible horrible load. If it's a reefer load there's even more expense to cover, and coming out of South Florida freight rates are not great.

If this guy is an owner op he may need to rethink his business plan.

Thank you. he's paying for the fuel when I talked to him this afternoon...that's why I thought I should ask someone that would know..cause I sure as heck don't know...I did know that it would cost a lot of money for him to use for gas...
    thank you again so much

Sounds like a U-Ship load,, Hauling loads like this will put a truck owner out of business,

How much do you think he'd spend for gas going down and back...I need to figure all this out cause now I'm driving over to his daughters to tell her this and she can let him know they're just using him...

would he even make money..after he ate everyday, got something to drink and gas?

thank you so much. I'm gonna show his daughter this and if she tells him they're just using him, then he'll listen

okay so its 1,216 miles from St. Louis MO. to Miami FL.
I'm going to assume a 7 mpg fuel efficiency for the truck.

1216 / 7 = 173 gallons of fuel needed to make a one way trip.

If your friend gases up in Missouri which has a $3.61 gallon average today it'll cost him 173 x 3.61 = $624.53 of his $800 dollars just to get down there.
He will have $175.47 profit to the truck. That doesn't take into account if he eats anything on the road or any other expenses.

    Not worth his time.

Now Jasel, be honest, is this "friend" really you? Whenever I had something wrong, but wanted to remain anonymous, I'd always say, "Mom, this 'friend' of mine has this funny rash, is that bad?":biggrin_2559:
