Can anyone share information on what the deal is with these random smog tests? What are they looking for?
I was reading from that one company got fined for not having the latest engine ECM updates for NOX reductions: http://cdllife.com/2013/top-trucking-news/carb-fines-carrier-230k-for-diesel-violations/
WE all know, these low NOX programming reduces power and fuel economy.
Nevada is doing some enforcement: http://nevadadmv.state.nv.us/emission_diesel.htm#enforce
They even have a snitching website: http://www.smogspotter.com/
What about New Jersey? What's the 411. I've seen some worn out engines, I was in Mississippi a couple weeks ago and spotted an old International with a worn out Big Cam Cummins. It was smoking blue/grey badly, and the fumes were strong. I couldn't remember if it was diesel or oil fumes. What are they looking for?
IN this day and age, there are many new trucks being bought and old trucks being scrapped, as their life cycle ends. I don't see what the big push is. Look in the truck stops, half to 3/4 of trucks appear to be 2007 EPA compliant and newer engines. Wait a few more years, and there will be more newer trucks, and less older trucks.
The EPA even banned, but later reversed its decision on the sale of military vehicles due to non compliant engines. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=Ydbex_h8_1lvBIc6sSDW_Q&bvm=bv.73231344,d.cGE
What is the % of military vehicles being sold to vehicles that are on the road? How often are they even driven? Why make a deal out of it?

Yikes - that's not as bad as California and their Air Regulations. Newer Trucks/ filters or be fined.
-
California has it the worst with CARB. Trucks have to be 2010+ very soon.
-
my company was forced to replace over 200 refers with newer models and about 30 perfectly working trucks. we spent a fortune to comply and later to find out, they gave extension for 5 years for those who didn't comply yet. CARB is screwing trucking in California.
-
One article I read they were getting upset at trucks picking up containers at the port, then dropping them off at the border where non-legal trucks would take them and continue on to their destination.
What's wrong with that? -
Read somewhere that CARB is not only regulating emissions, but they're regulating whether your truck is areo or not now too.
-
I heard that too, they're bringing back a new reg that was buried years ago. They can't make up their mind. -
Anyone get caught up in this Nevada emissions thing yet? If so what was the outcome, especially if you failed, were you fined? What's the deal
-
What is the difference is you have an aero truck or not when you can't even move fast enough to get into high gear with their 55 mph limit?
-
Well you know they have to save the planet , and the trees , I mean they can kill the baby's, Hipicrits, better not have an older truck , if it met emission for the year it was made it should be legal to run . . . .if it were "exempt" for the year it was made it should still be exempt . . . . ., wander if the. Courts will rule with some sense on this non-sense
gator21 Thanks this.
