In the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began looking at mandatory speed limiters on heavy-duty trucks in 2011. Two petitions for rulemaking were originally brought in 2006 by the ATA and the RSA, joined by nine motor carriers Schneider National, Inc., C.R. England, Inc., H.O. Wolding, Inc., ATS Intermodal, LLC, DART Transit Company, J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc., U.S. Xpress, Inc., Covenant Transport, Inc., and Jet Express, Inc. How ironic, these companies and their oh-so-stellar reputations being the ones to tell the rest of us how fast we need to drive in order to be "safe". Especially C.R. England. But it was never about safety in the first place, was it?

there was another side to the story, brought up on the radio today. AGAINST speed limiters.
AND the story included a driver that is suing canada. the case is up to the highest court in canada. the driver is dead. but ooida and the widow are carrying on with the suit.
but hey, cars are now allowed to do 80 in 4 states. that i know of. let's keep the trucks slowed down to the california crawl speed. so more cars can rear end us. -
Corporate collusion to control markets is nothing new.

Some of these names ring familiar to me.... Why is that.......... OH YES. These are some of the same companies who went to the ATA and the government to get electronic logs mandated. The BS about safety when in all reality it's about "leveling the playing field. These companies are huge, yes, but represent a very small potion of the actual market. EOBRs, speed limiters, etc, does do something for them. It takes away what the rest of the smaller companies have to offer. Doing the job better than they can. The "Walmartting" of the trucking industry, if you will. Want to kill competition, do it the Walmart way. By going to congress and then making it impossible to compete with you. Yay big business!!!!!

What is there data that prooves that these are needed outside of these not so stellar company's , ? it has been a long fought battle to get speeds for try is equal to cars , look at Ohio for example , if they cut our speed u figure they gonna give us more hours to drive ? Not likely , and yes these types of drakonion regs are always designed to favor the largest carriers , we operate the most majestic machines ever produced on this planet that are designed to carry more weight ,be less fatiguing for the ocupants , run at high speed while giving great control , when it. Comes down to it the right h are simply trying to get richer , the insurance. Company s lobby for this so they can charge whatever they want and have less chance of paying out , the environmentalist sack nuts lobby for it cause they figure they will save the planet , all the while not giving spit about how it affects those that suffer at the hands of the nonsense that they dream up., where's the statistics on 18 wheeler speeding tickets vs four wheel speed tickets , and let's be surd we don't lump in the cmv's in badge only ie pickups and such that rum cmv plates , example a tire service truck driver just yesterday driving pick up w/cmv plate says he has two speed tickets in last three months my suspicion is that these type " speeding " by cmv's are lumped in to justify the rulemaking ect , just my .02¢ the probably a better % of trucks follow and obey posted speed limits than do other motorists ............
