I just came down us 30 eb from 522 to i80 in pa fully loaded, no engine brakes under 35 mph, speed limit was 20 mph, half way down brakes were boiling i finally gave up finished it off at 35 mph to cool brakes, the stupidity of this is crazy.

that might be the way his truck was set up.

last year i drove a kw that had no jakes in the low gears. 5th gear wouldn't hit untill 1700 rpms. 25 mph i think it was. asked kw to look at it. and got told jakes work fine. umm, OK. i know the jakes work fine. they just don't work in the lower gears.

I wonder what your company would say if they found out the way you drive.

I live 685 yards to White mountain In north Idaho,I run I 90 twice a week east and west I watch fools driving with red hot brakes smoke just rolling. I have see so many crashes on Home Stake pass and on both side of Lookout. It's not wonder that trucking has a bad image when you just can't follow a simple speed limit.

My truck doesn't have a jake. Fully loaded, I might be going 15-20 with brake temps in the 300s. You may think you're good at 40mph with jakes & "icy cool" service brakes, but when you coming flying around a corner and see me poking along -- can YOU slow in time?

In preamble, I agree with you.

On the other hand rules/laws/regulations, what-have-you; are a happy, and in your case un-happy medium between the inexperienced driver and the experienced driver. You gotta put yourself in the shoes of the folks that made the speed limit. Let's put you on the board that decides it and see if you would feel the same way. Reducing the speed isn't for folks like you. It's an "oh crap" message to the inexperienced driver.

    Again. I agree with you though. I'm just a devil's advocate:smt077

There are some low truck speed limits in PA that make little sense, like the "Sisters' south of State College. I toggle the Jake beteen low and medium with a full load, and on and off on low, empty. There are also places with 10 mph for trucks, too.

Those are the places you want an 18 speed for.

I've not been in a truck out west, other than 70 to 15and back up 15 to 80 to go back east, once, during a spate of bad weather, when I was the only one who didn't tell the boss to go pound sand. I waited for a break and drove it in the moonlight, the night they announced Gerald Ford's passing I was driving by Vail. and reached Grand Junction about dawn.
