I just saw this today. That is pretty clever and I can see a CARB rep saying "####" because they probably can't do anything. Not right now anyway. What years are his tractors? I wonder how long until CARB catches up to that. They might never bother if not enough ppl do it.
DPF vs PM filters and do I really need new tractors? CARB carb carb

I drive a 2012 atm and have had a 2013 pete , from what I have seen on dpf regen systems they are trash, most unreliable trucks on the road and subject to have issues with dpf, air hoses melting, tube getting carbon in them. idle time kills this system, if you get one put a aux power unit on em , will save you tons of cash.
And think they are putting this crap on fire trucks, I cain't wait till one derates the engine in a must move situation and gets a fire engine toasted.
Personally I think the people that came up with it should be faced with a tree and a rope. -
I just bought a 2011 KW. I've had it 3 weeks, it's been in the shop 2 of those weeks. Burned a DEF line on a force Re-Gen, EGR cooler went out, had the DPF cleaned, went to Re-Gen it after all the work was done to reset the codes in the ECM, and it burned another DEF line. I should of moved out of California, would have been cheaper.

I'm sorry to hear that. We are based in CA so I feel your frustration.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you spend on repairs? We've been running pretty old equipment so I'm not familiar with what the repair costs are for some of the newer emissions tech. -
In California, it is illegal to do ANY SORT OF MODIFICATION to ANY part of an emission system. https://apps.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27156.htm -
That was just the California laws regarding modification of an emission system. Its a paltry $10,000 fine for doing what you claim this super trucker did. Here is the Federal Statute, its a $25,000 fine for doing what you just said he did. http://www.epa.gov/air/caa/title2.html

So when you say that CARB was upset that they couldn't do anything, I have to ask, why didn't they cite him on either the state or federal laws he violated? I was cited because a CHP officer couldn't read a couple of numbers on my engine ID plate on a Cat a few years ago, I can't imagine that not having ANY emissions at all would keep that truck in compliance with the emission control devices that were originally installed, especially if he had DPF installed.

Right at $4000 so far. But the sealed where I bought the truck had me send the bills to them, and they are going to try and cover most of it, even with the emission system not covered. I did the updated stainless steel EGR cooler, so I hope that solves that problem for good. -
