Hello group. I am probably the last individual you would want on here. I am an Internal Auditor for a private company. They want me to get training to do internal auditing so that if stopped on the side of the road, we will be in compliance. Can anyone recommend any training companies? I am not a LEO.

My job will be to protect the driver and the company from LEO and DOT inspectors.

    Thanks!!!

    You all keep America running!

Your job will be to limit the liabilities for the company by correcting easy problems. UNLESS you get to be in a position to make CEO type decisions about safety and drivers in the company, you will be limited to what you can or can not do.

    Training?

Start with your state police or if your state has a truck safety organization, they should have a training program or point you in the right direction.

Not at all! Welcome to the forum. There is room for everyone here.
We have even had a few LEOs on here, and there are a bunch of us who are retired LEOs.
See now, I would prefer that you looked at your job more as a way to keep your company and your drivers operating in a legal manner, so that they don't NEED protection from LEO and DOT inspectors.
There are computer programs for auditing logs. I don't know what they are, but I know they are out there. Also, as was already mentioned, contact your state DOT and trucking associations for information.

Are you working for a brand new company, or just new to the job yourself? I'm betting that the company already has something in place, unless they are new. If you are replacing another auditor, then you know they already have some type of program in place. Good luck on your new job.

And if you do catch some flack on here, just consider the source. Don't let anybody run you off!

Thank you everyone for your comments. Luckily, I have CEO and CFO backing to make recommendation to make the organization safer.. yes, reduce Liability! I did a Boot camp a few months ago and there were others who basically said, I am here to learn, but I was already told I can't spend a penny...

I have been digging through the forum to look for ways to improve our process, and try to understand things from the driver's perspective. Most of our drivers work over the 100 mile radius, but return to home base the next day... not too many cross country hauls.

I will gladly accept any and all recommendations, comments, feedback, criticism... All drivers are employees of the company.. not a third party trucking company. All drivers have authority to not take a load, and I have defended them on occasion when needed.

to comment on Big Dan, our trucking division is new. I helped create the manual we use, with help of a contractor. and YES, my job is to keep my company and your drivers operating in a legal manner, so that they don't NEED protection from LEO and DOT inspectors.

    Big Don Thanks this.

Good luck. Compliance ( with both equipment and personnel ) meeting fed and state regulations is an artwork in progress and mostly never ending due to the changing and updating of new regulations that will routinely come along. On one hand you will likely have the beancounters watching how much money you spend on keeping equipment maintained and DOT legal and on the other hand you will likely be dealing with dispatchers that need to "skirt" regs at times in order to take care of time sensitive deliveries and such. If this is the ground floor of a new company the company would likely be better off to hire an experienced person in the area of compliance and such. Too many mistakes can zap a trucking company's safety score quickly and as I'm sure you already know, can get the door of the operation padlocked in some instances.
Roadside inspections are plentiful these days as well as internal audits from fed and state agencies. I wish you well.
