I would say that the proper description of the officer who wrote that ticket is not allowed on here. Do your best to get the judge to embarrass him.

Sounds like a nitpick to me, but might hold up in court depending upon the judge. With elogs, I usually wait until coming back from a 10 hour break or a Reset before approving my log, because, once you approve it, you can't edit anything. I don't know what actually happens within the elog system if I approved my log in the middle of an on-duty/drive time status. Would the elog actually be approved up to that minute, or would the approval be ignored until I shut down for the day? If you can approve an elog "up to the minute" it seems to me this would be equivalent to signing a paper log before finishing for the day. But, I have never been warned about approving my elog too early. The warnings are always about failing to approve the elogs on a daily basis.

"Nitpicking" or not...it IS the law as it's written...the LEO was in the right...and the judge will side with the law if they know the law, and do their job correctly.

I disagree, if you don't sign the log until the end of the day then all entries DURING the day are not certified by signature. I always taught students to sign the log at the beginning of the shift, even before the PTI. Your are right about the Regs not being specif but if it is signed at the beginning LEO should never question you on it. You are pre declaring that all entries you will make are true and accurate. I guess bottom line is do what you think is right and see what happens.

Another interpretation: as in Court, you'll swear before giving testimony, that what you say will be true & correct. (Contest the ticket using the same model as when going to Court & testify. Perjury is a crime.)

It would be interesting to know what was the code on the ticket since you didn't violate any regulation.

post 11 should dispel all the rumour of how to do things correctly
but no one even on elogs can agree
some drivers will even argue both sides of a question
like talking out of both sides of your mouth

It appears to me that what windsmith posted is the basis for what the DOT Officer did in issuing the ticket.
