Hi everyone, I'm finally posting a thread where I'm not asking for a ton of help :biggrin_25525:

I know a lot of you don't run in CA and think CA is a crazy state. Yes, we are pretty crazy over here but even with this CARB mess, the pros outweigh the cons, outside of trucking of course.

I want to point out that there a lot of extensions one could be eligible for but with those come way more rumors and incorrect info. I suggest talking to CARB directly at 866.634.3735 or helpline@arb.ca.gov if you really need to know specific facts. I know that now in Q4 2014 those extensions might be all pretty much gone but I think they are bound to offer a bit more or at least now you have their contact info.

Also, here's some info directly from them I found regarding enforcement and another site with previous fines/cases. Of course not all of these relate to DPF/soot/filter junk:

    http://m.truckinginfo.com/news/187824/carb-2013-heavy-duty-diesel-fines-totaled-nearly-2-2-million

YES, they are the real crazy ones with all those things they say they MAY be able to enforce.

If you are considering retrofitting, which I am because I can't afford a new set of all 2012 or newer trucks so I might take a gamble retrofitting one truck vs buying another more expensive gamble with a 2007-2011 truck, and have any experience on that, please contribute. Here is current verified PM filter info from CARB:

    http://www.arb.ca.gov/diesel/verdev/vt/cvt.htm

I'm hoping we can find some direct experiences on here vs my friend's uncle's brother in law's ex gfs dog got a ticket from CARB :D

Yes, in January 10, 2014 they were set up in an empty lot in the middle of the warehouses that serve Otey Mesa CA, the exact address escapes me at the moment. They pulled ALL trucks that were going into the warehouses in that area, one of which was a buddy of mine, who thought his company had properly applied for the 1 year extension (1 owner operator, 1 truck, which expired 12/31/13. It was a 2006 Freightliner Columbia with a 2006 EPA year Detroit Diesel. He was told in no uncertain terms he was in violation, they put the VIN of his truck in the computer and notified him to leave the state immediately, if that VIN showed up again, no matter who owned it a minimum of a $10,000 fine would be forthcoming.
His company, K and B transport Troy MI, and mine Trailer Transit, Porter IN immediately made operational changes to prevent those trucks from going into California which including in our case giving up a contract with several large show customers, FELD Entertainment and the Cirque du Soleil because we could no longer provide enough trucks to service their needs. That is where it stands now.
If you are going to run California simply buy a newer truck. Why do you think the used market there is flooded with pre 2007 vehicles? It is obvious that the retrofitting is not a cost effective or reliable option.

    dca Thanks this.

CARB is ramping up enforcement BIG TIME!! They are set up in 6-8 locations daily now, not just scales, but industrial areas. They are hard core in southern Cali, but now i'am running into them regular in Northern Cali.

    jpeters72155 and dca Thank this.

When the big 9.0 earthquake hits see how quick they cancel HOS and beg every dirty truck in the nation to come rescue

####, sorry to hear that. $10,000 fine, I want to laugh at that but then you realize its not a joke..

Definitely looking at newer trucks right now. Do you think its true that I won't find another owner operator who will sell me a 2012 or 2013 truck? And if so, I'll need to look at those dealerships.

Also, do you guys know if when they pull you in they also do a truck inspection? Im guessing they can partner up with the DOT and such
