I have been using e-log for a moment and found myself in the situation to do paper log now. Would a good angel briefly describe recap?
    Thanks

Easy: At the end of the day, add up your last 7 days on duty time, subtract that number from 70 to find how many hours you have available tomorrow. The 8th day's hours is how many hours you're picking up at midnight plus whatever you have left over from the current day.

Here's my last 8 days. Sorry but don't know how to make things look really neat.

    1) 11.25
    2) 7.5
    3) 12.75
    4)7.25
    5)10
    6)4.75
    7)7.25
    8 )4.75

Add those * days up. Is it less than 70? If so, I am legal on the 70hrs/8 day rule. Now, starting with day 8, count back 7 days, and day #1 will drop off. Add days 2 thru 8, and that will give you the hours you can run tomorrow. Repeat as needed.

    Clear as mud..... right?? lol

Don't know why my 8 kept changing into a happy face. Guess I was accidently, using the right combination for an emoticon.

    Hi Panhandle flash,

    How are you?

Perhaps I am wrong or mistaken.

Isn't an OTR truck driver only allowed a maximum of 11 hours zero minutes zero seconds of actual driving time out of a 14 hour work day, not to exceed 70 hours in 8 days?

    Please advise.

That is correct. However, when you total the hrs for the day, your adding lines 3&4. My 11.25 was probably 10.75 hrs of driving, a pretrip, and a fuel stop.

The absolute easiest way to understand this -- if your logbook has a recap area (Keller does), just make copies of it for practice and fill in some hypothetical numbers that would resemble your typical 8 days. Then follow the instructions. It does it all for you.

In a few minutes, you'll smack yourself on the forehead and scream eureka.

An American truck driver on 70/8 can legally drive 13.25 hours in a 24 hour period.

    Hypothetical scenario:

start pretrip at 2345 for 15 mintues
    drive 5.5 hours
    take 2 hour break
    drive 5.5 hours
    take 8 hour sleeper
    15 minute pretrip
    drive til midnite

Hammer166 and Panhandle flash Thank this.

Amazing how many think 11 hours is a daily limit. I just got into it with my boss about a driver being on duty after 70 hours. He's very knowledgeable, but I still couldn't make him understand that the only restrictions of HOS were for when you are allowed to drive. You can stay on duty for a week straight, as long as you don't drive after 11/14/70 hours.
