I am informing the Trucking community that there will be an upcoming meeting in Alexandria, Va (Hilton Hotel) (This is METRO accessible--YELLOW/BLUE LINE) October 27-28th to finalize Task 14-2 which is the recommendation that will be sent the interim FMCSA administrator about 'Increasing Insurance Rates' that ultimately affect all small and independent trucking companies. These meetings are open to the public and are not often known about by concerned commercial drivers. At the end of each meeting for two days, they hold a comment period for industry officials to speak including you. BE PRESENT AND SPEAK UP BECAUSE THEY ARE SPECIFICALLY DISCUSSING YOU. Go to mcsac.fmcsa.dot.gov to get the agenda for both days. Thank you for reading my post. Trucker Advocate.

How the hell does the fmcsa have anything to do with setting insurance rates? Doesn't the free market dictate what insurance rates should/shouldn't be?

This committee is proposing a recommendation which initially started with the now former fmcsa administrator Anne Ferro. These recommendations eventually make there way to congress to be cosidered being entered in bills to be law. Please go to the website and read who sits on the committee. Thank you.

They are talking about increasing the automotive liability requirements from $750,000 (which was raised from 500,000 in 1984). Most think it will be increased to $1,000,000 -- which is what 99% of shippers and brokers already require.

So if you happen to have a $750,000 policy, your rates will probably go up. If you already have a $1m policy your rates may even go down.
