Missing logs fall into the serious category, as do incomplete DQF. You can bring the DQF up to date and it may be overlooked. Missing logs may not be able to bring up to date if the driver(s)aren't there anymore.
Usually the auditor will choose a different driver if the one picked no longer is there.
If you find these problems so easy and it was never corrected there is a good chance of falsifications when digging deeper.

One thing I wish carriers would get together and define is the term "failed inspection."
If I do an inspection and the only thing shown on the inspection is a warning for a marker light out, some would consider this a "failed" inspection because it was not "no defects found."
From an inspector's standpoint, a "failed" inspection would be one where the vehicle was placed out of service. Everything less than that passes, albeit with minor violations.
Seems harsh to fine a driver for an inspection that I did which had minor violations, but was good enough to receive CVSA atta-boy decals. (no defects on critical inspection items)25(2)+2 Thanks this. -

From a little different perspective, the more information that is given when it is not required, the more chances you give an auditor to find fault. For example time stamps on bills, entry and exit times at shipper receivers, time stamp on fuel receipts or motel times. None of these are required by law so why would you want to require it of your drivers. Again if it is not law don't do it. It is good to be respectful and furnish requested information as far back as law requires but never hand an auditor a loaded gun and then let them put it to your head.

More and more places are having drivers sign in with time in; one place claimed their business certification (ISO Numbered) demanded it, and the information is all over, as has already been mentioned. I waited for 2 trucks one day there, which is odd because often they only get a few deliveries in a week's time
Some also demand to copy your CDL for every delivery, while before, a few would copy it when I picked something up. -

As a driver I kind of feel like an inspection has failed any time it adds more points to my companies CSA score or more violations on my record. Or rather, that I failed the inspection. Unless they are nitpicky type violations of course. -
I would never pay the company that employees me a fine, not for this or anything else. This was the only reason I left IWX, which was a very good company to work for , they wanted to fine me for a logbook violation being over hours. Never have never will. Tere dispatchers required you to give them hours available for your driver time and your 70 before dispatching the load.
This kind of action is ripping off the driver. Drivers need to grow some balls and stand up for them selves.semi retired semi driver Thanks this. -
No offense but this crap is madding to all of us. This is a bit more complicated than having replies on a forum to guide you.
Go here, call these guys and set up an appointment for some consulting and use them, they know what they are doing.

YOU can have them come in and do an audit of your logs and teach you what to look for and how to manage your drivers.
There is nothing worst for a company and drivers for that matter to have people who can't do the job right. Not saying you are not trying but we face idiots and aholes in the safety department who think they are all knowing or have the ego that they are gods that make our lives miserable. GO get professional help from those who can TEACH you to do it right and the company can afford that help if they are serious about being in business as a carrier. If the company is so cheap (which many of them are), then it is why you are having issues with the logs by the drivers, they don't care because the company doesn't care either.
Oh and thinking about "fining" people for not completing their logs is really a sign of poor management within the company and no one should ever work for a company that practices it.Mudguppy Thanks this.
