I don't have the statistics or any real proof, but I'm willing to bet the government monitors & regulates truck drivers more than criminals, illegal aliens, terrorism and their own corrupt agencies. I could throw out all the examples. But you guys know what I mean right?
My honest opinion

We aren't their "buds" so they don't have to worry about hurting our feelings
And many more reasonsaduiepyle Thanks this. -

there are more cops enforcing truck regulations than fighting the war on drugs,,less dangerous going after truck drivers, only about 3% of all truck accidents are caused by unsafe or defective trucks,, 75% of truck accidents involving autos it is the autos fault,, facts from the Fed Dot..
Grouch Thanks this. -
Yes, truck drivers are blue collar/white collars. We're too dumb to be doctors too smart to be ditch diggers (sarcasm). Truck drivers are an easy target, that's for sure.
One of the biggest regulations that truck drivers deal with involves rest and the amount of rest we are supposed to get in order to be "safe". Regulation of sleep is about as useful as regulation on food intake. How much sleep did the regulations allow you to get? How much sleep did you actually get? How safe are you? Is this based on regulatory numbers or the fact that I nodded off four times in my last three shifts because government regulations dictated when I was SUPPOSED TO BE TIRED..and just couldn't sleep because I wasn't ready to sleep. Lovely stuff. -
I think the 10 hour break is a improvement in safety..(ouch..im sure many will disagree)over the old 8hr break.
by the time people do paperwork/eat/shower..they were only getting 5hrs..
I don't really think the industry is over-regulated(safety) compared to other transportation industries..
My Father-in-law is a commercial airline captain..he deals with HOS the same as we do.
he has to deal with OBR and black boxes as well as #### pit voice recording,he also deals with Med cards
My step-father is a locomotive engineer..same thing
Tug boat captains..same story(drug-testing..logs..
Deal with it,quit the so sorry me whinning...be as professional as you say you want to be(but aren't) -
And all three of these guys probably make a hell of a lot more money than the average truck driver does! And probably for working a lot less time.
I agree with your statement on the 10 hour vs 8 hour break. -

I agree fully. Hear a lot of complaining about how little pay or being forced to do something. I say suck it up or get out. It's not going to change unless you can get into the fmcsa or ntsb to make meaningful changes to the industry. 10 hours of sleep for myself is great and since these e-logs I get more sleep now than ever. Still make deliveries on time and pick up on time. Be safe.
