I have been driving for the last 20 years and normally I have my Primary care doctor at the Cleveland clinic a M.D. give me a physical and then he fills my dot card out and signs it when hes done... it lasts for 2 years ...well my time is coming back up in late December for my card to expire, can I still get my primary doctor to do my dot physical or does the Doctor have to be registered to do these? I cant see why a doctor who can perform FAA medical exams cant perform a dot physical ? I asked his head nurse if he ever registered to do the dot physical and she is unaware of having to do so? the bottom line is he required? or not?

My regular doctor gave me my DOT physical. He said a lot changed a few years ago and he had to take a special class and be certified to give DOT physicals now.

It is a requirement. It's invalid if he's not registered, even if he gives you a card.

You can go to the fmcsa website and do a search in the national database for your doctor. If he is listed as certified than you are good to go. If not than any medical card he issues to you will not be valid.

Your Doctor must take a few classes and cough up some cash to get on the FMCSA list.
If he is not on the list the card is no good.
Once you get the card you must give a copy of your long form to state DMV to enter into the data base.
If you fail to do this your CDL will be down graded.........
