I have a few questions about the medical cert that I have coming up. I am over the bmi for this sleep apnea crap. I took a home sleep study a year ago that says I do not have it. Do they make you take a new one yearly? Also, since the sleep apnea bill was signed are doctors still doing it? My second question is now that the doctors are all registered with the new database if I get a 2 year card now and then in 5 months a new company sends me for another physical and that doctor says I only get a 90 day till I take a sleep study, does the new card cancel my two year card in the database or will the 2 year still be legal? Thanks drivers!!

sleep apnea studies are required at the moment

Just in case anyone is curious how they let you do the sleep test at home. Some people think they can just get a friend to do the test for them. You show up at the doctors office and they attach the pads to you then send you home and you hook yourself up. If you try to remove the pads they are ruined so the doctor can tell you took them off.

They are or are not required? Thanks

It's still up to the doctor who examines you. Go to Iowa80. The doc is pretty cool there. He's no poster child for fitness

your right it is not law, but the doctor does not have to sign off on your DOT physical either if you deny the sleep study in order for him to sign off on it. Everyone is all up in arms about this. So what, if people were not over weight we wouldn't have this issue! Most doctors now are going off of BMI just to request this test to be done, so if people don't want to test, lose weight! lol.
Yes semi you can tell the doctor to go and shove it and he can tell you thanks for coming in and paying for a physical that you will not receive a med card for. The doctor is operating under his own license and is certified to say that you are cleared to drive over the road. So if he does not feel that it is safe IE sleep apnea test for anyone over the 40% mark, than he is NOT by law needed to sign your medical card. Yes, there is NO law stating anything about sleep apnea, but the doctor is licensed to use his medical profession opinion, is he not?
What is the real issue here? The fact that they want to enforce sleep apnea tests or the fact that they are going off of BMI primarily and forcing a lot of truckers to get in and test? -
