If you fail to get new medical recert you will loose your cdl flat out, best thing is to find a chiropractor and get med card if you want to keep.

 

The way I heard it if you don't get the medical recertified the class A or B is no good. Think someone said it stays in limbo for a year but don't go by what I say. As far as I know Medical Card has nothing to do with HM renew so if your MC needs renew you will need to renew it to keep your class A just drop the HM part is all.

I have had a class B since 1983 and only used it for that summer. I have kept it up even with my med card till April of this year, I did not know it expired till I started trailer truck school where I renewed it with them.
Because I had to get a class A permit I took all endorsements but HAZMAT, studying for it now. Once I get a job I may drop HM if not needed as it has to be renewed every few years un-like the other endorsements but will see when I get to that bridge.

Me on all this if I have a license and may use it again down the road and it is not a lot of $$ to re-new every few years like the med card then I will keep it over going thru all the BS to retake all tests again but that's me.

It has to be an FED DOT approved doctor to recert you for a CDL not just any doctor like years ago.

Here is what gets me about this FMCSA system, the loss of your license when you do no have a valid DOT exam. They mimicked the FAA medical exams with the registration of doctors and all that but they let the states screw us when they didn't put in the regulations that we should have a choice to just suspend the CDL indefinitely without having to retake the tests. From my understanding, if I have a private or even a ATC pilots license, I don't have a medical that is valid, I don't loose the license but I just can't fly as pilot in command, so this should apply to CDLs too.
