    Hello all!

I do some hot shot work, mostly hauling campers. I'm a little confused on the California emissions, I drive a 2008 gmc duramax and have all the emissions equipment removed. Would it be really risky driving into California? Do they do emissions inspections at the weigh stations? Thanks for any help.

Yes we do, and its very detailed, just like getting a smog check on a car..fines are steep too, because they will assume you know the law and if your system is "chopped" (I'm guessing for more power) expect to get raped at the scales.if they catch you..

this week talked to a driver based out of Sacramento he had old beatup reefer "no new engine" and old Volvo he had California plates. he said dot don't look at emissions. they have special "green police" that can check you at truck stop or rest area. im tempted to go there now there are good paying Christmas tree loads going from Oregon to cali. and my reefer engine more then 7 y/o. I see lots old pre emission trucks reefers with ca plates.

I think if you have a fleet in California their is a certain percentage that has to be emissions complaint. They don't make the laws very easy to understand.

the fact that he as all his emissions equipment removed. he's got a lot more to worry about then just california.

epa and federal regulations come to mind. and any state can nail you.

I'm aware that it can be ticketed anywhere, but I don't think I'll get checked anywhere else.

You will not be checked in CA either, they do not have the manpower. There are thousands of non-compliant trucks runing around, I see them every week I'm there. I'm one of those non-compliant trucks, no one has said anything to me.

If you are hauling a camper just remove all your company signage from your vehicle and just act like you are going on a camping trip. If you are going on a family camping trip you wouldn't be required to hit the scales? LOL

Nobody is getting ticketed in California. I will ask the same thing I ask on tons of forums. Has anyone reading this actually been cited? I mean YOU YOURSELF not "a guy you talked to" or "my friends boss"... Have YOU been cited for being noncompliant? Not talking about being cited for idling (different CVC). Not denied entry into a port (not the same CVC either). I have NEVER once seen a citation for having an old truck in California. Nobody has ever once been able to actually provide a citation number, scanned copy, or place that they were cited... Never once.

There, that should clear things up for you about running a non compliant truck. The worst thing the OP is doing is running a truck that has had emission modifications done. I know California will cite for that.
