This is how it works now with idealouges like speaker cruz and speaker warren yelling and screaming about this and that instead of actually participating in the legislative process. Two sides of the same coin

Really a non issue if the 168 hr thing between reset beginnings goes bye-bye in the bill. If I am in a job or situation where I need, or even can, take more than one 34 in 8 days, then time to look for a different working situation. Over half the time, I never take a 34, primarily because of the 168 hr thing and the 0100-0500 thing. I don't even worry about it. I just recap like I have done for decades and continued on. In the worse case, might have to wait a day to pick up any substantive hours.

This whole 34 thing has made jobs for more idiots than just about anything that has come down the pike. It keeps trucking groups all fired up, it causes anti-trucking groups all kinds of angst, Law Enforcement groups complain and have fits as bad as any trucking interest, and it has guaranteed more government jobs in the process. Just forget it, do away with it, and use the recap that is a proven way that has virtually no restrictions.

I hated the 168 hr thing and the 1-5am thing for a bunch of reasons. Like if you just came off a reset 3 days ago and wind up storm stuck for a day and a half. No reset for you! Or if you did a reset 4 days ago but had hours left and wind up sitting in Laredo for 2 days waiting for freight to come north. No reset for you! It tended to get VERY confusing for anyone who crosses the border between Canada and the US because now not only did you have to track 2 different sets of HOS regs, your Canadian reset may have been invalid in the US because there weren't 168 hrs in between or two consecutive 1-5am periods off. The 30 minute break doesn't affect me much, since I tend to take a short break every 3-4 hours or so just to stretch my legs. Find a place to park, use the restroom, grab a coffee, and thump your tires, and that 30 minutes is pretty much gone.

In short, I'm glad they fixed this, but I sincerely doubt it will be very long before the HOS debate starts raging again.

No the King has not signed it yet. Prospectively supposed to do so within the next couple days. What nobody has said is that the "possible attachment" for the total hours of service was never attached nor is it being covered that it has been. Now what has happened is both the house and the senate have approved this bill and King Obama will be signing it soon.

This will ONLY remove the 2 34 hour reset rules that were put in place in 2013. Meaning we will be able to use it more than once a week and be able to use it any part of the day we want not needing to use (2) 1-5 AM periods.

I see it as a step in the right direction, but definitely more needs to be done!

also the ATA had asked the FMCSA when would the enforcement go into effect. Well according to law, once the president signs it, it is effect immediately, BUT for all DOT to be aware of this, the FMCSA has informed everyone it will released the information to the DOT "AS SOON AS POSSIBLE"! So we ALL know what that means, sometime next year!
