Independent o/o. I have Oregon on my IRP. Never needed to go there until now. May never need to again.

They have a milage tax like ny and ky I believe? Can this be done with a temporary permit? Do you need a permanent account and permit from the State of Oregon? I might not need to go there but on rare occasions. Can you take care of this at a port of entry? Or do you have to have it before you enter the state?

You need to buy one, you used to be able to purchase them at the Port Of Entry, not sure about now though. If you are stopped without the permit, it could cost you well over $400. The permit itself is $8. I just got my renewed permit. You can call Oregon DOT registration at 503-378-6699 and they may be able to fax you one. Just don't get caught without it.

Joeseph1135 is right. Call now. I remember getting at permit at the POE but someone told me they are no longer open 24/7. You might think fuel is cheap when you see the pump prices but they do not collect any state fuel tax at the pump. It's a weight/mileage tax and it is high. And you cannot buy fuel without the permit.

If you don't have a weight-distance bond, you can do 5 trip permits/year -- each trip permit good for 1 week (you just prepay for the miles you intend to run @ 16+ cpm)

    magoo68 Thanks this.

Print it out. If they ask you need to be able to hand it to them.

Your plate # will now be in their system. I've never been stopped once I order the permit.
