I only say that because he said he worked there and quit, And I know you can "red tag" a truck at reddaway and refuse to drive it..

Telling the DRIVER to fix the problems himself is asinine. People get paid for that stuff. And companies are required to supply D.O.T. spec'd trucks. If anyone is going to work on a truck for free....why don't you go over there and fix it for him. Ridiculousness some times!

I wouldn't do anything for free, fuel the truck? Pay me .detention ? Starts the second my rear axle leaves the public highway and enters the ship/rec property.. drop a trailer ? You mean get out of the cab and lower the landing gear ? Yea pay me..what go pee in a bottle ?? Yea pay me..turn in a level 1 inspection sheet with an hour time stamped?? Yea pay me.point is we should never, ever do anything for free..I took my car to the dealer and asked them how much work they would do on it for free.he said none..We are drivers..you don't call the cops to put out a fire, why should drivers do mecanical work ?..I'd call a TA service truck out to fix my marker lights..hehe.

I get paid to deliver freight and I can not do that sitting and waiting 4 hours for a mechanic to fix a 5 minute issue. Had an issue one time where I only had an option for 1 trailer. 1 hour and 12 wire splices later, I was rolling. I was pulling a stretch another time that the cables and air lines dropped out of the trough and drug through locking the breaks and turning out the lights. It was daytime in the middle of summer and did not notice until I heard the air flowing through the dash valve. Long story short, 1/2 hour on the shoulder and I was running again to the shop. Twisted and taped the wiring to get the lights to work and backed the brakes off to get it the 60 miles to our shop. Was that legal? No. Was it safe? Yes it was.

Point being that if you are too lazy to fix the minor stuff you will be making Abe type videos complaining on how much you are sitting waiting for repairs.

You must REALLY resemble your screenname! I've worn shorts, muscle shirts or no shirts, and nothing, I usually hear, "pull it around back...and put a darn shirt on!"

So back to my OP. Corporate policy bans us from performing any form of maintenance on our vehicles (aside from toping off our fluids during our pretrip. So no changing lights or other stated parts. The reason why I am not allowed to turn in the truck is because we are short on them.

My my additional question would be if any of my write-ups are OOS violations or does my management have a point when they say that they will take care of it later?

Am I required to have all marker lights working?
Airhorn still works, do I need an additional electric?

They might let you roll without marker lights..turn signal not working and bald tires is automatic OOS until repairs are made ..all your other things are not OOS *in the green book* but any officer can put you OOS for any of them if he wants to.A pocket FMCSA book should be with you at all times.it's your trucker bible..get one and read it..

If the front or rear corner lights are out they will put you out of service. You will get a fix it ticket for marker lights but they will usually let you roll. (at least here) Some states will be more stringent. Corporate policy be ######, pop them out and see if they just came unplugged. Who will know?

If you have a horn you are good to go either air or electric but you do not need both.

    Bald tires are OOS violations.

If they are that short on trucks, talk to the management and they will probably give you the OK to fix the minor stuff to keep the truck rolling. Tell them you will document what ever you fix so that the shop can check the repairs when you have time to get into one.

As for the tires, have them send a roadside repair truck while you are on your 10. Problem solved. Now if they can not afford to pay for new tires then you need a new job.

So you're a stickler when it comes to policy. Strange that corporate policy wouldn't ban you from knowingly operating equipment with oos defects.

At least get the signal light fixed.

Marker lights, head lights, plugs, that's not actual maintanence. Im that's five minutes and you're on your way. So I guess checking the oil and adding oil or fluids when they're low is asinine too.
