    :biggrin_2554: heard the other night on social media , i don't know if true or not, or depends on the state you live in, but if you let your medical card expires , they will put your cdl back to a regular licences , i don't know how true that is, anybody heard anything on that, now i worked hard on mine , way back then when it was a chauffeur permit, then a chauffeur , then i was grandfather in when cdl comes out :biggrin_2558:

    Actually it's a Federal requirement now that you have your med card attached through the DMV (on line with a scanner in most states) and it must remain current, also in Fl. if you are NOT driving you have to go online and declare that is why you don't have a med card on file, if you don't keep it up they will suspend not cancel your CDL and when you go back to work and update your med card on file you will go back to all CDL privileges, this has been a law now for almost a year if I'm not mistaken. Florida sent CDL holders a notice with the web site, law statute and how to proceed some time last summer, I'm surprised your own states didn't do the same.

    In Iowa, you have to keep a medical card if you are interstate and it requires a medical to be current. My wife has a CDL A and she doesn't drive, and she cerified she doesn't do interstate.

    If you never leave the state, Ev, you should be able to certify to that fact and keep a valid CDL and if you ever decide to go interstate again, you just need to pass the DOT physical and be good to go after letting the DMV know.

    That's part of the new federal law that passed 2 years ago. If the BMV/DMV in any state doesn't have your current medical card, you have a 30 day grace period and then your CDL will be pulled. They will not give you a warning either.

    Thanks one and all for the info. I only have a 1yr due to blood pressure issues and since I'm the king of procrastinators, I'll have to keep reminding myself to stay current with the med. card.

    of course Colorado is stupid, when you get pulled for an inspection (with a colorado license mind you) they ask to see your medical card

    WTH??????? hello, this is your stupid law, it's part of the CDL now, remember?

    they will give you a warning. My dad's Med card expired and he didn't realize it and he got a letter in the mail saying he had a certain amount of time to get a new one on file or his CDL would be downgraded.
