There has never ever ever been a driver that missed an appointment for whatever reason because of the 30 minute break mandate?

And like I said, even if they only think they are now under the gun, it can create unsafe conditions that outweigh any benefit the forced break can hope to achieve.

Using your same analogy... If a driver wants a break, he can take a break. He is not under the gun to not take a break, so why mandate how long and what time frame a break is taken?

It's because it was FORCED on us, and it takes 30 minutes out of the 14 hour clock that we're not paid for. This was pushed on us by the "We Hate Truckers" groups and the unions.

And they all seem to think drivers are stupid and not able to take a break when needed, so a mandatory 30-minute break within the first 8-hours of on duty time will surely fix all of the industry's safety problems... because they think it will and don't care what the actual workers know to be fact. The BS coming down from Big Brother might never stop.

When I was hauling groceries to retail, that 30 mins was a big PITA! Had to shut down 25 30 miles from the yard several times, and wait for someone to come get me! Couldn't take the break early morning while doing key drops, had to be mid day while trying to hit open docks at opportune times! Part of the reason I quit that job.

you miss the point completely, people should at least be stopping to eat breakfast lunch or dinner at some point during a driving shift, if someone cant take at least 30 minutes somewhere in a 11 hour driving shift and 14 hour limit, there is a problem. the appointment can be rescheduled . unless you are hauling a heart in an igloo cooler for a transplant, no one is going to die if an appointment is missed. but someone may die from folks thinking they got to ram in every mile they possibly can.

its the mega carier trained rat mentality of running every dang mile and every hour possible. that's the thing, folks who never ran under the old rules simply don't understand how the 11 and 14 , 34 hour reset rules, have put people under the gun.

I don't get paid by the mile, I don't drive for a meha and no I usually don't stop for lunch. I pack a sandwich.

As I stated earlier the break often times takes time away from time spent with family and friends. That's not cool to me.

There was never a requirement to document a pre-trip inspection...

Also suspended was the requirement of 168 hours between restarts. You can now take a 34 hour restart at any time.

Already done. Our qualcomms rebooted and it went live for us on the 17th.
