I do believe I seen one or two before this one, but those threads were (to me) just talk, and 'hear/say'. This is the first one I seen with PROOF posted by the OP, that the rumors were true...that is why I left my particular comment here.

Regardless; to me the 1 to 5 rule was stupid....and hopefully it stays gone. 34 hours off of work, is 34 hours off of work in any way, shape, or form---why they thought they had to add that provision is ridiculous. A lot of people were having a hard time running their business under that rule i.e.: Distribution, LTL Line Haul, OTR Teams, etc... the Government simply just did not think things through (as usual).

I agree JRTBud87, it does seem "busier" this year. Been around quite a few nasty ones and I basically run New England down to NJ and PA.

It is rare we get good news in the trucking business but this is one really good one. Most companies and law enforcement could not understand this monster. The crazy lady who instituted this was one of those liberal "we know better what is good for you than you do" bureaucrats who rammed it through against the best advice from truckers, shippers and trucking companies. She made a bad impression on congress at the hearings on this and gloated to trucking companies that she thought they should have a party to celebrate it's passage. It is dead for now and hopefully will not be brought back next Sept...long may it be dead:)

I would guess that those of you that think the 34 hour restart is killing you, all get paid mileage and have to run all the miles you can each week?

I am in favor of going back to the old 10 hour drive, 8 hour break and no such thing as a restart.

Yep. Lot to be said for the old 10 and 8 gig with split sleeper also. The 34 restart thing has never really caused me to give it much thought. When it plays out, I use it. When it doesn't, I just recap like the old days.

I just wish the folks that put so much effort into getting the 34 hr reset thing reversed, would have give up on that and focused more on getting the split sleeper provision back, like the old days. Only major requirement was that one of the sleeper berth splits had to be at least 2 hrs. Other than that, you could split it up anyway you liked as long as both splits totaled a complete break period when combined. Unless folks are just sitting around with nothing to do, I am not sure how this 34 reset reversal is going to really be a major improvement in things. After all, the recap is still the same as it has always been since 1939. But I can see a lot of major problems being made easier to deal with if the split sleeper provision was brought back.

I agree. The way they ruined the sleeper berth split has caused grief to nearly everyone. But especially the team drivers, who, until then, could work out whatever split worked best and safest for them. That and not being able to stop the 14hr clock to take a nap or avoid traffic problems, has been a pain in the ???.

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE ON THE 14 HR. RULE !!! I got caught in San Francisco traffic for 3 hrs. racing against the clock. IMHO this time would have been better spent taking a nap waiting for traffic to clear.
