I'd rather not have a 70 hour cap either. I'm usually out of hours by the 6th night I work or I'll only have 5-7 hours available. It sucks
-
It'd be nice for me if they had different HOS regs for OTR, Regional, and local drivers.
I know it would be a nightmare on enforcing them for certain drivers since our company has local and OTR drivers. -
this was when satellite first came out. and i first hit the road with my new cdl and career. back in 2000.
at that time, it was all an idea being kicked around. i went local shortly thereafter and discontinued my satellite so i have no idea how the kicked around idea came into law. and how the 34 got thrown in. -
the 10 drive, 8 hour off had flexibility and the megas felt it let drivers screw off to much, fast forward to today and ya have guys who complain about having to take the 30 minute break... trained rats I tell yascottied67 and Cat sdp Thank this. -
I much preferred the old 10 and 8 with split sleeper berth provision. Was so much better and more flexible for many types of trucking operations. No 34 reset, no 14 hr thing, and just recap the hours. In HOS, the K.I.S.S. principle applies best.

With the advent of the 10 hour break the NIMBY's came out in force. -

i don't remember all the details. like i stated, that was 15 years ago.
i just remember drivers "supposedly" wanting an extra hour drive time. and i'm thinking 10 is more then enough for me.
i'd still liek to know, who's idea it was. and why it was. to change the rules, that were in play and worked just fine for 63 years. -
I pick and choose loads that fit my schedule, like I want to work. it took me a few years of company driving to get to that point, but I have been there for quite a few years now.
I am as far from a trained rat as one could get.
and lets not get this thread to far off track, I never anyone shouldn't draw a line in the sleeper, I simply stated I just do my 10 hour break off duty, which is completely legal. I have never had a problem with it, never been questioned, and as stated before had the man in my home doing an audit on 8 trucks worth of logs, where I had my 2 drivers and the 6 leased on guys logs gone over.
I simply am not anal enough to go back nd forth between line 1 and 2. I just know how to answer any questions the "man" may ask me.
example, I don't keep food receipts, I simply use the 59 dollar a day per diem so I don't have to keep em, I don't even keep fuel receipts in the truck( the company I am leased to pays any ifta shortages, and gets the fuel report off the efs card, so I don't even have to turn in fuel receipts. I simply print off a record of my fuel transactions once a month at home. ) I get a cash advance to pay for things when I fuel., don't use a debit card or credit card for everything. the fuel transaction always matches my log. I run and log absolutely legal, even though I am on paper, my avg speed is 60 mph.
my 30 minutes breaks avg an 1 1/2 hour, lol .
