And what exactly does you never having a problem with it in 35 years have to do with whether or not they can ticket you for it? Answer: Nothing. Since when is 'but some guy on the internet said he did it for 35 years without a problem' a valid way to fight your way out of that ticket? Answer: Since never.

I bet if I looked hard enough, I could find a guy whose been playing Russian roulette for 35 years and never lost. Doesn't mean you'll catch me doing it or recommending anyone else try it. Being smart is being smart and being stupid is... well, stupid. Logging in a way the DOT specifically says not to is IMO stupid.

so if you get out of your sleeper during your sleeper break
are you required to go to off duty
if you kick your tires on the way back from the restroom
your in violation for not being on duty
    OMG the world will end

    Koolaid drinkers unite
then stupidity will be corraled up together

what it has to do with it is this, not one inspection, not one log check at a scale, not one random check on roadside, has ever questioned me logging off duty for 8 or 10 hour breaks. not one company log department has ever questioned it either. and I have been stopped in ca. even.

my point is , all ya have to say is you are off duty, you don't have to tell the guy you used the sleeper. same as when I have been asked for receipts, I just mailed em all. I also don't keep food receipts, I simply take the 59 dollar per day perdiem. I also don't volunteer any information. I also only provide 7 days logs, I don't hand over the entire book. course I print my off the laptop now,so that's never a problem.

I just aint never been so scared of the man that I run scared. the regs say a break of 10 hours, I give em a 10 hour break off duty. what they gonna do monitor my sleeper??? of course not.

this ranks right up there with the guys who are scared crapless when they go into a scale, they drive real slow like they wont attract attention. my stuff is always in order and it don't bother me a bit.

I have also read the green book and try to be smater than the average bear.

you folks are wrapped to tight, and scared of the man.

and by the way, they cant ticket you for it , if ya don't tell on yourself. if I log 10 hours off duty, how they going to know I did or did not get in the sleeper? the regs don't even say you have to sleep do they??

Whether it's 18 hrs in the sleeper or 18 off duty, unless you tell them otherwise they can assume all they want but can't do a thing about it.

Wait? Didn't someone say it didn't exist? If you didn't need to use the sleep birth line? Why is it on the log sheet? For you noobies, if you want to stay complaint? Log it like you do it, so? Again to the ones that say, you don't have to log sleeper birth? You can believe what you want

Not for nothing but I think you could stand to read your own sig line a little more often.

jarman, where does that guidance say you have to use sleeper berth?? and the only way that guidance would apply is if as if the op case you tell the man you used the sleeper.

if you read this thread you would have seen that the 8/2 split has been posted over and over as the only exception where the regs state you have to log sleeper.
