I know a small farmer that only uses road diesel in his farm tractors, (his John Deere and Fords)

he claims it pulls better and he uses less fuel, than when he uses dyed fuel.

    he's a little crazy though.

Hi tucker, yeah, I have some crazy stories from when I worked at the dairy farm. Sometimes they do things that are a little questionable. I've heard (and experienced ) just the opposite, red fuel pulls much better than road diesel. Maybe he has diesel pickups for road use, and only has 1 tank. I finally had to quit, because some of the things were too much for me. Bald tires, blown air bags on his tankers ( the new thing is get a road tractor, and an old milk tanker, fill it, go out in the field and open the valve and let 'er go) no brakes on the trailer( possibly due to the blown air bag, and no air pressure) and they don't need registration or a cdl to run it.(in Wis.) It's considered a motorized manure wagon.

    tucker Thanks this.

In Texas farmers/construction companies can use red dye/offroad diesel in there pickups *IF* they buy an offroad diesel permit. You have to estimate your annual mileage, prepay the road tax based on your use, then at the end of the year you file for a refund or pay the excess tax. Each vehicle has to carry a copy of the permit, to show the tax guy if they get checked.
For large companies it might be worthwhile, but a one or two truck operation would be more paperwork than it is worth.

That's just for reimbursement for the federal fuel tax you pay for buying commercial diesel for off road use. Enforcement of what's in your tank is provided by your helpful statie fuel cops.

Red dyed duel in the tractor in a huge no-no. You can use in a reefer fuel tank though.

Yeah you would need to look at the individual state dept's of revenue.
I know a guy who got up into the 10k fine category, I think he got caught 5 times. I told him to add green die, then he would have brown fuel, no law against brown fuel! ;)

It's definitely not good. Someone may have been trying to save money by buying off road diesel when fueling your trucks.

Been told different things about using in a reefer, so? If pulling a reefer? Make sure you know this for fact before using, I don't pull a reefer, so? I don't bother to find the legality on this
