Hi Everyone! I'm new here and hope that you all can tell me how long it takes to get the TSA Threat Assessment back for Hazmat. Here in Tennessee, you have to be fingerprinted and then when TSA notifys the DMV, you can take your test and renew your license.

Here is the problem: My husband's CDL & Hazmat Endorsement expires 01/06/15. He went to be fingerprinted Wednesday, December 17th. I keep checking the status online, but it just says that it has been received and the assessment is underway. I went to the DMV today (here in Tennessee, you can't call and talk to a person) and asked if he could renew his CDL and then pick up his X when the threat assessment results come back. She said he could do that. Trouble is, he won't be able to work until he gets it back.

How long did it take any of you to get the results back from the TSA? Is the TSA Online Status correct? They say 30 days and that is 10 days too long. I would REALLY APPRECIATE any input from you all!!!

    Thanks a bunch! - Ginger-

Also, might be a good idea not to wait so close to the expiration date to do renewal, you can renew your CDL months in advance

I think with me they worked on the background check right after the tester sent in my fingerprints.I know that same week I got my results back and took them to the DMV and then got that endorsement put on my CDL.

I got mine in three weeks in Arizona. TSA will submitted electronically to the DMV so my hazmat endorsment never got cancelled. He can renew his license but wont show his hazmat until he gets the tsa notice back.

I agree, the company I was at when my cdl was due to expired started reminding me before the 30 days in advance. They were always good about keeping on top of expired cdl's and med cards.

Yep kinda what I was thinking.

Even worse, I came from an aviation background WITH a current and valid STA, fingerprints, sensitive area access security clearances, the highest security clearance you can get from TSA based on the same STA we do for trucking.

The current valid clearance wouldn't transfer.....or rather, they tefused to transfer the clearance to my CDL when I initially got it even though the clearance was exactly the same. Can't get the additional $86 if we transfer it you know. Geez. Just a ####### money grab.

So, initially I didn't get it just on principal. Then, when that company was begging for haz drivers couple years later went back and got it.

And promptly went to a better company where I didn't need it lol
